so the last few months with the turdrolla have been...painful...so to speak. my steering has been completely fubar - the best description i can give is my steering wheel (and entire front end, before i figured out what it was) was shaking like a cold chihuahua on crack. it was getting so i didn't want to drive anywhere, because i was broke and couldn't afford the (expensive) diagnosis and repairs...nevermind the fact that it put me in physical pain from all the vibrations if i drove for too long. i'd taken it in to Toyota awhile ago to figure out a random clunking in my front end, which they diagnosed to be the inner tie rod ends. i figured OK, that's probably what's causing it.
nope. changed both inner and outer tie rod ends, and after a good $500 spent on that repair it still shook. finally took it back over to toyota on Tuesday night (my buddy Steve is one of their employees), and we checked my entire suspention, as well as balanced my wheels, etc. it turns out i somehow have 2 wheels that are out of round. i have no idea how i've managed this, as i drive the car like it's made of glass when i go over bumps.
on the upside, however, i managed to get my sway bars in, as well as clean off my rear brakes and adjust the drum shoes so i actually have a functioning ebrake now. hopefully this tuesday we'll have time to install my rear springs (i've only had the front lowered), get a replacement brake kit on the driver side since mine's fubar, and replace one wheel stud that was broken a week ago from someone cross threading it a good 4-5 months ago.
the downside: i'm out $450 for a repair that we probably could have done on our own, and would have cost me just $150 for parts.
the upside: next season the car's going down to FedEx for its first autox. i should have a new set of wheels with some really good tires by then (well, i hope...), so i hope to be one of the only corollas on the course. hoooray for the little red rollerskate!
to those on whom i tried to pawn my car...i do apologize...i was just sick and tired of having pain in my arms from the drive. nope, i'm not selling her...i've gone through too much at this point and have been successful in fixing the problems, or at least know what i need to do to eliminate them.

Glad to hear you found out the problem with the car.
My Jeep had the same symptoms. At around 40-50 mph the steering wheel decided to shake like a 50 cent vibrating bed at a cheap motel. Once I balanced the tires again, all was well and fine.
Depending on how long you have been having the problems, I would probably make sure everything else involved in your front end is tightened and torqued down just in case anything deicded to loosen itself up.
Have a good one,
Justin
what kind of tires did u have that did that?
-Borsty
it wasn't the tires...it's the WHEELS. Konig Monsoons are, apparently, very soft.

oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh thats some bullsht.
-Borsty
yup.
so now i'm on the search for something with a similar style(hopefully LACKING in rivets), 16", and 4x100.
the world hates my car. all that's available in most sites is 17"+ and BLING
pirates kick ninja asses, f00
isnt 4X100 a semi normal pattern?
-Borsty
yes, it is...for pre-03 Corollas, Civics, older Sentras, and a few others...but i can never find what i'm actually looking for.
i suck at wheelsearches.

yup, that definitely turned me on.
Have a good one,
Justin
so i went shopping during my lunch.
ASA JS-5
Bold and sporty 5-spoke design(thick spokes are win)
Deep, aggressive lip area (i LIKE lip. a lot)
Appearance enhancing rivets add a 2-piece look(meh. i can live with or without these. they're just annoying to clean)
Fully covered lug area
tirerack.com has them for a decent price($109/wheel), so unless someone can find them for less, i'll be getting them once i have the moneys saved.

Five spokes all the way. Those wheels don't look bad at all.
Have a good one,
Justin
well, they're almost identical to my Monsoons(thick 5 spoke, rivets, lip). i'm looking more to match the thick 5-spoke and lip than the rivets - i couldn't care less about them. if i had an option to get the TRD wheels that were available for my car when it was made, i would...so this seems like the next best option. apparently ASA wheels are made by the same folks who license BBS wheels...ASAs are lightweight, sturdy, and worthwhile for middle-road wheels.
i definitely like them.
thanks for your input.

well its good to hear that you found out the problem and are happy now
im having the same problem with the steering in my escort right now. I checked the tie rod ends, but i guess it might be both wheels are out of round, who the eff knows. Its a piece anyways
what is wrong w/ rivets?
they just didn't use the right ones for the job
some monel should have held it together fine,
they are just a pain to shoot
watch it before i beat you with one of my bent rims.

*eyes you*
oh, i thought about it all right. i thought about it long and hard.
and then realized that i don't have enough energy after today, so i'll let it slide.
THIS TIME!!
