2006 BMW 325I...........Aftermarket wheels...help!
Thursday, August 25, 2005 8:20 PM
I am also a member of a few different BMW forums, and have noticed that these guys are boring!!! They all want the same style/brand wheel..its like an unspoken law or something. I searched and searched and couldn't find anyone on the sites that didn't have that typical BMW design wheel. Now they will upgrade too chrome and even 20' wheels, but they stick too that same cliche style wheel!! I just purchased my 325I and need an upgrade! I made the mistake of posting a link too the wheels I had thought about buying for the bimmer and got alot of ewws...and Barfs...and no ways!! What do the j-body people think? Thanks for any opinions on these I love the simple yet eyecatching wheel..not too much IMO but that deep lip sets these off IMO..what do you think?? Oh BTW these will be 20's and they fit perfectly in the wheelwells

just incase your wondering....

235/35/20 front
275/30/20 rear
offset 40

can run 20X10 rear
and 20X8.5 front might be able too run a 20X9...maybe?

I hate to say this (and I KNOW I'll get flack for it), but I couldn't
see myself spending that kind of money on the "flavor of the
month"... I am NOT denying Foose's clean car designs BUT
too many people are talking about his wheels... which means
that you might pay 1800 on rims just to be like everybody else.

Personally, if I'm going to drop 1800 for rims on a bimmer than
I would go with a "boring classic" like Hamann, AC Schnitzer,
Hartge, Racing Dynamics, or Breyton. They might not have the
same "today-sheik" of a foose package... but hey... a good set
of rims is an investment, and a classic design WILL withstand
the test of time... which makes them a good investment.

I'm NOT throwing you an ewwww, but consider that 20" wheels
will definitely take some "ultimate" out of your "ultimate driving
machine" with their higher rolling mass.

sorry if I offended you

No offense taken! I am aware of the performance "back step" I would be taking, and am ok with it. If I really wanted to get more performance I would have opted for the 330 model with the sports suspension. I am going for the look rather than performance. I do understand that those cliche BMW wheels are high quality wheels, but would rather have every tooth slowly pulled out of my mouth one at a time with a pair of rusty pliers than bolt on a set of the above mentioned wheels and be just like all the other bimmer owners! Thats just how I feel. I like my car to be some what unique. Keep the comments coming guys/gals! So far thats 1 who likes them....two who don't...and one that thinks they cost a lot!!LOL

I didn't say they were expensive.... I said they were a BAD
investment. Heck I'd drop more on rims if they made me
happy... AND... if I knew they wouldn't look embarrassing
in 2 years time. Chrome itself (on any brand) will degrade
quicker than you think.

Having said that.. I now see you're going for all show and
no go... sooo I'd like to change my vote to "you have my
blessing".... ahahaha and my god have pity on your BMW
bastardizing soul

This is who I was saying said they cost alot. Hmm. Another thing...you speak as if I have never owned chrome wheels before. I owned a 2002 cavy fully kitted dual exhaust suspension and 19' chrome wheels on that too. Owned it for 3 years then sold it. My chrome was just as nice as the day I bolted them on.....so you telling me "will degrade quicker than I think" I laugh at that AHAHAHAHAHAH!!! MORON!!

WOW . I was trying to be nice.

let me guess. you were tired of being called a moron
on the bmw forums for going with this wheel option,
so you decided to exact revenge on us poor non-bmw
owning hicks ?? Why ask .. than call me a moron ??

I guess its true what they say... BMWs have a way of
turning most normal people into arrogant d*cks.

^^^^^^

You were trying to be nice??? WTF That's funny looks like you were making a smart a$$ remark too me??? Nobody on the BMW forums ever called me a moron. There you go again...speaking about something you have no idea about!...again first chrome rims..now what others call me on other forums...do you not realize you have made yourself look foolish...in a public forum? I never called you a hick....another irrational comment from you. Please re-read this whole post and maybe you can see I didn't strike at you until you got smart butt with me. If you can't see that then I feel sorry for you.
Finally, If one judges another based upon what they drive or how much they paid for it then that just shows how shallow a person he or she is. I never said or implied that I was a better person because I drove a BMW....so why would you bring it up?
I'm calling a truse here...no need to argue over what looks like maybe a misunderstanding..right?
If I offended you in anyway I AM SORRY.
Now.....anyone else have an opinion on the wheels on my car? Keep the comments coming...good or bad..as long as there honest!!

you DID call me a moron based on my observations on
chrome rims... would I put your mind at ease if I used a
instead of a in my message? Now you're
telling me to re-read the message but you are passing
judgement based on a smiley face. Seriously, you'll
dismiss my rolling mass and investment comments
just so you can take a bite out of my ass over a smiley
face.

so you, previously, owned chrome rims and they lasted
three years... congrats. Perhaps you could explain to me
how was I supposed to know that tidbit of information?
telepathy? from your comprehensive j-body profile? In
my area, chrome doesn't last. Allot of people get caught
off-guard with their chrome wheels one day into a
snowfall ... the salt trucks come out, and the clearcoat
starts to corrode. Once again, how would I know where
you live.... your profile?? For all I know, you could live in
anchorage or miami.

I made an educated comment on chrome wheels from
what I see in MY area and (perhaps) I used the wrong
emoticon -- now I'm a moron. If that doesn't deserve a
emoticon than I don't know what does.

trying to go for looks is stupid.

upgrade your rims to get lighter.

you want to be different?

why does "different" always have to mean ugly? those wheels will not suit a new 3 series.

you want to waste money on the wheels? get a set of hre's. you get the bling, a wheel that suits the car, a wheel that looks good, and nice shiny finish, and strength to weight.

those other manufacturers are used because they make wheels that happen to suit german car body styles perfectly. it almost doesnt matter which wheel model you get... they almost always seem to just "work".

bbs lm's are the best ever looking wheel and people will definately notice (seeing as how you are going for looks). they are also light and will make your car handle better.

what a stupid thread this is. NEWS FLASH: People don't buy BMWs cause they drive great, they buy them for the look, the status, and the quality. You guys act like hes the only person on the face of the earth thats putting chrome wheels on a beemer.

Jeez, they are decent wheels if not great. They aren't overly takcy or anything (Arelli Assassins or how ever you spell it)

Get over yourselves, most of you drive economy cars and wish you had a bmw.

Some people don't care about going fast and just like 2 roll around in what THEY think looks good.

Yeah...I really don't own a New 3 series. If I wanted to lie I would have at least said I owned a M3 or M5...not the cheapest Bimmer available: 325I. Anyway, I just wanted some input on the wheels on the new body style. The mentality of some people is so...so...so........narrow minded..the comment about going for looks is stupied? Come on guy......I think owning a sunbird is stupied. I actually don't think that, but see how stupied that sounds? How about makeing this a simple yes or no thread...yes means you like the wheel on the new 3 series No means you thinks it wouldnt look good. That should keep it easy. Right? Thanks people,

John

What about axis wheels? They make some really good ones for the european imports. I know the 'super mesh' one looked wicked sweet.
