Ford said it will end production of its Lincoln LS sedan in 2006, the Dow Jones Newswires reported.
The sedan will be discontinued following the second quarter of next year, possibly costing the Wixom, Mich., plant where it is built hundreds of jobs and may lead to the facility's closure, the story said.
The automaker has been selling the LS since 1999 but demand for the luxury vehicle has declined in recent years.
Ford builds three models in Wixom, including the low-volume GT super car and the Lincoln Town Car sedan. Although no timetable has been announced by Ford concerning the Town Car, production of the GT is expected to cease following the 2007 model year, possibly leading to closure of the plant, the story said.

Doesn't suprise me. It's a great looking car except for the boring grille but it just isn't selling however I can't understand Fords point of veiw on making the LS's successor fwd. The Mazda 6 platform is a good platform and all but too make a luxury car off it just doesn't seem too smart especially when Lincoln is trying to take some sales away from Cadillac.
The LS is a great car, sucks to hear.
cool car, just too expensive.

Ahhh man! I really like the LS. Thats a sweet looking car!

LS a good looking car?
it's a blantant rip off of 90's era BMW design. it was a sad car to look at that ford is so unoriginal that they totally made a straight out BMW rip-off...they could easily take off lincoln badges and put BMW ones on and nobody would have been any the wiser.

lincoln has never made anything but beautiful cars, and i'm sad because of them stopping the LS

Sadly, having a family member working there, we saw that coming...
While the LS wasn't a great car, I thought that it was pretty good, and was pretty fun
to drive..and so far, they seem to run for a while too...
The GT was only supposed to be out a few years anyway...the next supercar will be built
someplace else.
G.T.-you forgot to add that the Town car is gone too. Ford has no plans to replace it,
though a future car may sport the name. Even as of late, the Airport services are no longer buying them..sales are way down....
Wixom should be closed by May of 2007. Though there is a good chance Ford will
rush the closing...so it could possibly be closed by the end of 06...a few employees
are already transfering to other plants..a few layoffs should happen by the end of this
year...
that sucks about the plant closing, I liked the looks of the LS, and was actually thinking of buying one instead of the cavalier a few years ago. but decided I didn't want something different, so I bought the same style car I have already owned. As for the GT, all I can say is when they started it up, to drive it out of the Rogers Centre (Skydome) in Toronto, it sounded really nice
Kid Rock comes to my work occasionally and he rolled up in a FORD GT (red with white stripes) the other day. I must say that car is quite impressive. Yes its a Ford, but that car for the price (even though it's still expensive) is the best bargain as far as supercars go.
The Ford GT, saleen S7, and original Shelby Cobra are the only fords I like.
where they going to build the shelby there?
i forget
