are there any 4 banger SUV's out there of decent quality or any other SUV that would get 28+ mpg. Doesn' t have to be big. Just has to have optional 4 wheel drive.
hmm good luck finding that other then the scion xB no 4 wheel drive though

sadly. most 4cyl suv's are underpowered for their
design/weight.. hence the engine must be pushed
hard .. hence the fuel economy isn't as good as you
would expect.
even the 1.6L 95hp suzuki sidekick gets 23/26MPG,

Toyota Highlander
Cant beat the new Highlander, around 30K but it has 286HP in a v6 hybrid engine and gets 33mpg city 28 highway.
Jeep Liberty CRD is your best bet, I think its the only American SUV with a four cylinder diesel, I don't know the numbers off the top of my head but it got better highway mileage than the Ford Escape Hybrid and its got more than enough torque to get the job done. The downside is its a Liberty but if you stay on the road it should do ya good.

Zuks are awesome, us Jeep guys make fun of them cuz they're so stinkin ugly lol but they're so light they bounce off of everything in the way, gotta respect the offroad capability

I somehow doubt they get that good of gas mileage. Most of them had 5.13 gears. The lowest gear ratio you could get was like 4.30:1.
I just looked it up and a 91, for example, got 28/29 mpg.
Suzuki sidekick would be perfect. if you go with the 2-door model you'll get around 23mpg highway. 4-doors ar like 21 or 22mpg. they last forever and have awesome off road capability. visit

I test drove the 4 cyl vue, it didn't feel underpowered to me, maybe check that out.
Red 2005 Saturn Ion-3 Coupe
only get the escape hybrid if you do city driving...it gets better mileage when its stop and go.....highway mileage is basically normal though
Not unintentionally accelerating since 2009!!!!

You've never drivin a v6 one have you? The 4 banger might be good in your ion but it's not enough to move a vue around.
Pontiac vibe/ toyota matrix. They are both offered in awd, and get pretty good milage. both are built by toyota.
2004 Cavalier. Razzi. (Sold)
1998 Corvette. Some mods.
1992 Typhoon. Lots of mods.
1994 Civic VX 44MPG

Yah, I know the V6 Vue with the Honda engine is quick.. Actually felt quicker than the Ion Redline.. lol.
Red 2005 Saturn Ion-3 Coupe
I wasn't even talking about the Honda engine. I was talking about the old Saab 3.0.
Saab 3.0 engine in a Vue?? I didn't know that existed.. Does it beat the 250hp/242lbs of tq of the Honda engine? I mean these things are quick..

If you just need a wagon-like around town hauler, take a look at Subaru's line-up. I like the Impreza Outback. AWD is standard on all models. I test drove many of them and they seem like strong vehicles.
