New Type R Goodies (Turbo) =)
Saturday, August 13, 2005 3:15 PM
What's up guys. I finally took the plunge and turbocharged the Type R. Along with the complete turbo kit/parts I added a Fluidyne Radiator, Complete 3" Exhaust including 3" downpipe, new injectors and a fuel pump. This was dyno tuned with Hondata so my fuel management is pretty much the best. Max Power= 289.63whp Max Torque= 187.39, all of this running at 7 psi. I don't intend to run any more boost until I upgrade the internals a bit. It runs strong right now so that's enough. I still have my A/C too. Here's some pics.....

Holy crap! Nicely done, not too many people with the balls to boost an R. Gotta love the guts to do that!

From the looks of the parts, you really must have broke the bank! lol.
All high quality stuff though, can't go wrong with that.

That's a pretty sizable turbo as well, looks like it's still building power up till 9k! That's awesome.

Ever get sick of your seats, i'll be happy to take em!

kick ass setup. how much was everything?
isnt a stock ITR compression like 11:1? kinda high for boost?

Thanks for the compliments guys. =) I'm sorry civic 4doorsleeper but you can't have my sparkplug cover, haha. I actually like the look of it on there, I know a lot of people either take it off or change to a carbon fiber cover or something but I like the look of the original. The parts certainly cost a pretty penny but I had to go with quality stuff. The compression ratio for the Type R is actually 10.6:1, a little higher than the GSR's 10.0:1. If I remember correctly the RSX-S is at 11.0:1 and I believe the Celica GT-S is like 11.6:1 or something. The compression is a little higher but I had complete confidence in LHT's work, he's a Honda/Acura specialist and has done turbo set-ups on about 20 cars, and John the owner even has a 2001 Turbo Type R himself, but like most always say, it's all about the tuning. That's why I went with Hondata dyno tuned. I do plan to build the motor more in the near future, just gotta get more money. =) I'll try to get to the track soon for some times, maybe this Thursday.

Awesome car man, all I can say. And impressive numbers at only 7 psi. I will always love the type r, the integra had a great chassis my ex GF had one that I helped her mod. The install looks smooth as well, very nice car and work!

wish it was that easy for us ecotecs... you have your own pre tuened ecu.. theres no we an eco can run on 880cc injectors without a megasquirt or stand alone. lucky bastards.

Thanks again for the compliments guys.

Z-unit, it's an Acura.

John H, I should have worded that Hondata a different way. Hondata is a stand alone engine management system, but you are right in the fact that it is designed specifically for Honda and Acura where-as you with an Eco, don't have that luxory. It has it's own ignition and fuel maps depending on if you are running boost or not. Since it is designed for Honda/Acura it uses a stock ECU and plugs directly into the stock harness without modification. Since it uses a stock ecu and integrates into the stock system, it performs just as if the vehicle was running off a stock ecu from the factory however you now have infinite control over the settings without having to modify wiring or add extra sensors. Only thing is, you gotta run an OBD1 ecu. I did the OBD2 to OBD1 conversion and used a P28 ECU which is the norm. That's how I'm running the 880cc injectors, they're just tuned down.

Maybe you fail to realize the motor is just 1.8 liters in displacment.

I knew someone was going to say something about the torque.<img src="http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/rolleye/rolleye0014.gif">

Very nice numbers man! Car is looking awesome as usual. Do you have any sound clips of the engine?

yeah but theres just a plug and play harness for that kinda conversion. you honda people are mothered

im just playing.. your car is definately a piece of work to be proud of. i saw a video of a turbo itr racing a viper from a roll.. the viper got him by about 3 cars and the type r caught up and passed him in 5th it showed a shot of the typr r's speedo and it was pats 140.

btw, how much did your entire setup cost? and how much was the hondata?

Re: New Type R Goodies (Turbo) =)

Haha, pretty much, just the harness. I got the Hondata, conversion harness and P28 ecu for $550. Typical price on those runs between $450-$500 new. Total cost for everything, parts, install, tune, hondata.... came to just under $5,000. I got a pretty good deal on a few things. Here's a picture of the back I took a few minutes ago. The exhaust tip looks stock. It's a K-Teller exhaust system with a magnaflow muffler. They make 3" exhaust's for Integras. There's also a few more pictures of the back on my car domain site in my profile.

11:1 isnt that high.... hows 11.5:1 with 14psi on a gt2871r.
or 10.5:1 with 18psi+ on a t66.

or 14.5:1 all-motor.

all on pump, daily driven.

its easy to do if you can learn to tune it, and dont neglect fine tuning on a regular basis.

although that sc61 is way overkill for his current setup... should have gone with a much smaller turbo until the build is done.
