3800 S/C engine help

What would be making grinding noise inside the charger? I hear it mostly by the neck. Also on the boost gauge it reads

0
-10 10
the needle rests on the -10 and have only seen it move to the zero. Is this correct? I know nothing about a boosted engine.

its supposed to be at -10 to -15 at idle....on a non-boosted car the guage would just go to 0 at wide open throttle........but since you are boosted, you are supposed to be seeing numbers above the 0 mark on the guage.

yeah at idle it sits at -10 and it does go past zero at WOT thanks. So now onto the S/C question I'm pretty sure that the grinding noise shouldn't be. But what can it be?

it's the coupler. the peice that attatches the snout shaft to the rotors. little stupid $20 plastic thing. they sell it at zzperformance.com. i think they have instructions on there somewhere, too. if you cant find the instructions, get ahold of me, i've got a writeup on it somewhere. cant help with the boosgague, though. sorry.

and by not you mean??? series 3? if that's what you meant, then yes. they all have couplers. plus it's not the engine series that would have an affect, it's the supercharger series. the '97-'03 3800's are series 2 and have a generation 3 eaton m-90 s/c on top. the '04's and on are series 3 3800 and have a generation 5 eaton m-90. that's where the horsepower gain comes from in the newer models. but if it's a series 3 with the gen 5 blower on top, it might not be the coupler. a year or two isnt long enough for it to go bad, you may have a different problem.

no my bad, I meant that the coupler would be the same in the series 1 which came with the M45? or the series 2 with the M90. either way I just ordered it. thanks man

hmmm, not sure if it's the same from blower to blower, but it's worth a try. only other thing i can think of is getting a hold of eaton, and i have a feeling they'll charge you an arm and a leg

I'm pretty sure it fits. It says this on ZZPerformance.com site.

"The ZZP Supercharger coupler fits the entire line of Eaton blowers from 1990 to present "
mine is a 95 so I guess it falls in that category. Thanks man you been a bunch of help.

Got the coupler and oil last night. Went ahead and did it today and damn this thing is a big difference. I just hope not to change it again anytime soon. Thanks again "231 cubes of furry"
