ok guys, my dads girlfriend is getting rid of ner '93 automatic camaro with a 5L in it. im thinking of buying it, i think i can probably get it for around $500. the engine's getting ready to throw a rod, but a friend of mine hast a 350 i can have. so i've got two main questions; first, how hard is the swap from 305 to 350, and second, do you think i should go for it? i want a rwd v8 really really bad, but the body's not in perfect shape. it's got a little spot of rust on the bottom of the door, but the door's kinda crinkled anyway, so it'd have to be replaced, and some front passenger fender damage. any thoughts?

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.
ZZP XP cam, 1.6 rockers, 105# springs, speedbuilt FWI, 3.3" modular pulley, TOG headers,
3" exhaust, flomatched injectors

doesnt exist 305s only came in third gens
350 lt1's came in 93 models
its either a 3rd gen and u got the year wrong or a 4th gen and u have the engine wrong

now how did i know you'd be the first to chime in?

92 was the last year for the weak kneed 305(5.0)
if your lucky it will be a 92 , cause it is alot easier to swap the motor in the 93-97 LT1's they suck , and its best to drop the whole thing out the bottom

u would need to take out the k member and all the suspension, not sure but i think lifting it out would still be easier.

Why does everybody say that whenever it's F-body related?
We all know Borsty will chime in first because... get this...... HE KNOWS ALOT ABOUT F-BODIES. Now isn't that amazing?
We should just leave his AIM SN at the top of this thread. Let him charge people $2.99 per session.
hahahahah i am that good.
DAMMIT STEVE WHY ARENT U ON AIM ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Borsty
i was actually hoping he would be the first to chime in
because he knows them so well. that's why i posted on this forum rather than some other forum. as for charging... that may be a good idea, glad i got him to answer my question before someone put that idea into his head.

curious...what would a stock 350 run in that generatin firebird...like 88-93...i know a kid thats putting one in his firebird that is that generation and he thinks its gonna be balls to the wall fast but idk. what kinda numbers would he expect with a 5 speed andor auto?
Civickiller
well i know the 88-93 camaros and firebirds are quite a bit lighter than the 93-02 camaros and firebirds. I bet the car would move. If the car is a 92 it will be the older body style and have the 305 in it. Not sure if it has the tbi or tpi in it. If its the 93 like said before it will be a LT1. Unless its a v6 and then it will have the 3.4L.
82-92 is the 3rd gen years.
no they arent lighter. they are the same chassis cept for a few expact bars in the doors. but also make up with it with more alumium parts.
a 350 being put in could be anywhere from 250 hp - 550 hp depends on how its built.
chances are it will be fast.

Borsty, you're gonna love this CarDomain page I just found...
92 'Maro w/ a 89 Formula 305!!!
231, if the body style is the red one, it's a 93. If it's the blue one, it's a 92
It's up to you whether or not to go for it. I personally don't like the 3rd Gen Camaro's (tho the 3rd Gen Firebirds are my fav lol) so I wouldn't buy it if it's a 92. If it's 93, I'd go for it. One thing you could do if it's a 93 is swap the front end from a 98+ (newer headlight style) to give it a sleeker, more modern look. As seen below
Now how hot is that?? lol. And since the motor in the Camaro is going, you can grab the LS1 out of the 98+ while you're at it
If you find a Z28/SS w/ a decent motor of course.
