Saturday, August 06, 2005 6:09 AM
hey a kid around me just bought a new colbalt ss and i seen that its intercooled, isnt the supercharger basically the same as the gm s/c for the 2.4 engine so how is the colbalt supercharger being intercooled?

No it's not the same charger. It is still a roots type though.
how did you" see it was intercooled"? there is no front mount, you werelooking at the rad. It is air to water intercooled via a laminova heat exchanger located in the engine bay.

Aftercoolers and Intercoolers are essentially the same thing, it just depends on what the manufacturer wants to call it. I've seen an Aftercooler on a John Deere turbo-diesel that is in the exact same location as an Intercooler on a Cummins turbo-diesel engine.

Yes, it is generally done something like this (note: not a j-body kit):

And those lines on the side of the intercooler are hooked up to a water pump that runs to a heat exchanger mounted in the front of the car in the path of air.

Woot. Yeah, very sexy little kit if you ask me, but it gives a great example on how to intercool a supercharger setup.

that was quite possibly the coolest cutaway video i've ever seen. they need one for the 3800

Andy

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.
ZZP XP cam, 1.6 rockers, 105# springs, speedbuilt FWI, 3.3" modular pulley, TOG headers,
3" exhaust, flomatched injectors

jsunfireGT2000 how could you say someones stupid for driving around a cavalier with the 2200 in it. I call that genius. Have u seen the gas prices lately. The 2200 gets the best gas mileage then any engine they have put in the cavaliers or the cobalt. Your a moron for calling a guy a moron cause he gets the best gas mileage. I have a 96 cavalier with the 2.2 in it and im averaging 37mpg. I definately know your not getting that mileage. I know its slow, its a cavalier its suppose to be slow and im not a moron and go drag racing on the street.

Actually, I hate to burst your bubble, but you are completely wrong...

2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Base (2.2L OHV)
Manual: 24 mpg / 34 mpg
Automatic: : 23 mpg / 29 mpg

2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Base (2.2L DOHC Ecotec)
Manual: 26 mpg / 36 mpg
Automatic: : 24 mpg / 34 mpg

^And so are you to a degree, so don't be so quick tell him he is completely wrong. And since he was talking on the OHV 2.2L...

1995-1997 EPA rates the 2.2LOHV
Man 5 25/37
Auto-4 23/34
Auto-3 24/31

1998-2002 EPA rates the 2.2LOHV
Man-5 24/34
Auto-4 23/31
Auto-3 23/29

2002 Ecotec EPA rates it at
Man-5 25/33
Auto-4 24/32

2005 Ecotec EPA rates it at
Man-5 26/36 mpg
Auto: 24/34 mpg

Technically you are both are correct and wrong.
