A continuation of this thread.
All Subaru models are equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as standard equipment, providing a traction and handling advantage over front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive vehicles.
The Impreza line has been restyled for 2006 to reflect the new brand identity. The new Subaru signature front-end design for Impreza features a three-section mesh-type grill inspired by the company’s aircraft heritage, plus boldly styled headlights with smoke-tinted lenses. Sedan models feature revised wide-body fenders, while the wagons have their own flared fender design, as on the previous model. All 2006 Impreza models get a new tail lamp cluster design, as we all know from thread ^^^.
The Impreza 2.5 RS models have been renamed 2.5 i for 2006, making their nomenclature consistent with the larger Subaru Legacy® models. Impreza 2.5 i and Outback® Sport models get a boost to 173 horsepower from 165 horsepower with the addition of the i-Active Valve Lift system and the Electronic Throttle Control system to their 2.5-liter Boxer engine. All 2006 Impreza models get a new dual-stage Subaru Advanced Airbag System. In addition, the Impreza 2.5 i and Outback Sport models gain front seat head/chest side-impact air bags already provided in the WRX models.
Subaru expanded the WRX series for 2006 with a new, lower-priced WRX TR Sedan, along with the premium-level WRX Limited Sedan and WRX Limited Sport Wagon models that feature additional luxury amenities. All WRX models get a complete engine transplant for a significant boost in performance. A 230-horsepower 2.5-liter intercooled turbocharged engine replaces the 217-horsepower 2.0-liter engine used since the WRX model’s introduction. The larger-displacement engine produces 235 lb.-ft of peak torque at 3,600 rpm, compared to 217 lb.-ft. at 4,000 rpm for the previous engine. Even more than these numbers suggest, performance is improved in all speed ranges, with greater emphasis on low-end and mid-range torque.
Along with the boost in power, WRX models provide enhanced chassis performance for 2006 with aluminum front suspension links, a quicker steering ratio, 17-inch alloy wheels replacing 16-inch alloy wheels, wider, lower-profile tires and larger, more powerful brakes.

Boooooo....bumping it up to 2.5L sucks. The 2.0L was true to it's rally roots

im a @!#$ pussy ass liar! i lied to my girlfriend over and over, sat around with her friends naked and stayed home downloading porn...she loved me and i hurt her...i deserve to be alone and unhappy...no wonder every girl i try to love leaves me...i suck.
It makes more sense from a business perspective though. Now they only need to maintain 2 different blocks. The 2.5L and the 3.0L.
Its a good improvement for the WRX if you ask me. Enough to make a noticable difference. The 2.5 will substantially eliminate the turbo lag. First i have heard of the limited and non models, i may have to look into that. I am surprised by that, since they have gotten rid of that distinction within the legacy line.
So now the WRX and STi will share the same engine? The STi just has more goodies installed, correct?

Sold 2/2/05
It will be the same block.
IC, turbo, plumbing, ecu will all be different, not sure on the other details off the top of my head though.
The engine they are putting in is essentially the same set-up as the current forester turbo.
any change in transmission options Mr.Goodwrench ??
I could swear some european imprezas (2002ish) were
offered with a sportshift auto.
