Engine Weights?
Sunday, July 31, 2005 10:43 AM
I was wondering if anyone knew the weight of the engine + tranny of a K20A (RSX-S) and the weight of a 1.9L + tranny from an Saturn SC1?

I'm contemplating the swap. if the engines weight about the same, putting a 200HP engine in a 2300lb car gives quite the power to weight ratio 11.5lbs/HP.

Any help, i searched google but came up empty handed.

you're going to hate me for this but a Saturn SC1.
It's going to be one bastid of a car when i'm done. I'm taking parts from everywhere with reckless disregard for brand loyalty. I want a specific type of car that isn't offered in my price range so i'm going to make it.
My requirements were:
coupe
under 2400lbs
IRS
fast
some aftermarket support
not ugly
capable of handling adequately
enough room for 4 people

So this is what i'm left with:
i was going to try for an LSJ (2.0L SC ecotec) but sourcing out parts was a pain, actually it was not even possible.
So this is what i'm left with:

Honda drivtrain, saturn body, mitsubishi styling.
K20 powered space frame saturn, with an FTO bumper and headlights.

Sorrt Luc, I can't help ya on this one.
But I wanted to ask ya, what happend with w41 Quad? 190HP/165Tq. If you can work on the GM charger on it as well it would be really be something.
Think of it... 2300lbs car+ IRS+ 190 or 245HP= Weeee!

yeah it won't be the only saturn, but what about a J? i was looking at putting a J35A3 in my cavy. the same one from the vue, also the acura mdx. 250 HP / 242 ft.lbs. i gotta J-body, why not a J engine GM calls it the "L66" they swapped the Circle L for it. So, Honda makes 'em, but GM supplies 'em....well, to the GM's that is. at least that's my understanding from what i've been reading online. so a chevy Jbody with a honda J engine....would my car be considered domestic or import?? LOL

but like you luc, i'm trying to find the weight of that 3.5. if it's not too much more then what i already have, i may go with it.

dude, honestly, most swaps are not worth putting the time money and effort into the J

Re: Engine Weights?

Dude there is no way a L47 would fit in a J-body, ever, it barley fits in my car
look

there is no way that would ever fit in a j, and if you wanted to drp a N8 in gofor the 4.6.

why go for 250 when you can have 325

Talk about back from the dead...

A K20 would certainly be interesting in a SC1 though; I've had the idea in my head for some time now, that if anything ever happened to the 'flower I'd pick up a SC for cheap, and swap the LD9 into it, just to be different - a 2300lb car with 150+hp/lb-ft, and some aftermarket struts/springs would be sweet, imo.

I know it's back from the dead. I actually did a search this time and this was one of two results i found. and since luc was asking about a honda drivetrain, i figured i'd ask my question about the J35. sorry the thread got off track. but in response to what was said;

It might be a tight fit w/ the L47, but with enough time, money and determination you can make just about anything fit. And as far as dropping a 4.6 in, the only N* that produces around 325HP is the LH2 (320HP) and from what i've found, it's RWD & AWD which i don't want. so, if i go with another N* other then the L47 it'll be the L37. i would think a 4.6 would be bigger than a 4.0 though. it all depends on what i can find. I've seen a couple of N*'s at the junkyard. i'm gonna look for that J35 though. if i remember what i read,(and feel free to correct me if i'm wrong, i've been doing alot of research and reading i might be getting it mixed up) the vue's curb weight is around 3967 lbs. and the Jbody is about 1350 lbs. lighter. so 250HP in a car that's 1350 lbs. lighter?? i can be happy with that. and i don't want to go turbo or s/c, just wanted to try something different

now back to the subject.....engine weights. i already got the performance specs of the honda engine, but if anyone knows where i might be able to find any additional info, i.e. engine weight, dimensions, etc. etc. that would be great.

Not sure why I didn't see this before but from what I've read the K20 is about 450-480 lbs engine tranny and everything...

Re: Engine Weights?

lol, jersey kid you already have a GSR turbo. Im pretty sure you rape k20s

Re: Engine Weights?
