H2 hummer...
Sunday, July 31, 2005 9:35 PM
My buddy is getting ready to buy a car. Just finished his second tour in iraq. He wanted to buy a used Yukon. Then he noticed the H2. He found a bunch with low miles, in the 50k range for around 20-25. He insists its legit. I told him to check everything out first cause that seemed really cheap. He even found one, undamaged and clear title for 15k. Is the low 20k range normal for a used 2003 hummer with low milage or should i try to get him to find something else? Thanks guys.

well... if less people bought the H2 than people like
your buddy wouldn't have to risk their good lives in
Iraq in the first place. Oil is the middle east's curse,
and the developed world's obsession.

I never liked them. The air suspension freezes in
the winter, its horrible on gas, and it has very little
cargo capacity for a vehicle of its size. Personally,
I always figured that anyone who buys a new H2
should get a free t-shirt from the dealer that says
"I bought an H2, and I'm a D*CK" Having said that,
your buddy did fight in Iraq (twice) -- if there's
anyone that actually deserves to own one.. that I
guess it would be him. Although, I still think there
are MUCH better suv options... even a yukon has
more utility.

lol...ok guys..but is that a normal price. If it was me..i would also chose a yukon or tahoe. I thinking of trading the truck in for a z71 yukon or tahoe simply for the seating and cargo space.

So is this price normal.

3 years old 20k for 15k? sounds alittle fishy.

eh, they are all pretty much the same vehicle since they are on the same chassis.

If those are what he is looking for and his heart is set on it, I would go for the Tahoe. My uncle has one of those behemoths and it is ok I guess.

As far as the price for the H2, I would definitely take a look underneath, drive it around, maybe take it on a couple off-road trails to seem like it drives fine. From a 50k vehicle to 15-20k, like Borsty said, sounds a little fishy.

Have a good one,
Justin

H2
Well I'm glad your buddy changed his mind on the H2. Honetly they're
more hype than function. I don't know what your friend wants in a ride,
but if he's looking for a 4x4 than its hard to go wrong with a classic
like a Jeep Wrangler, & the 99.5-2003 Nissan Pathfinder was awarded
Edmunds best used SUV pick. But anyways, anytime something looks
too good to be true it's usually because it is too good to be true. I don't
know what a used H2 sells for in the US, but if the average price is 20k
than a 25% discount (based on the 15k H2) is definitely too suspicious
to pass off as a great find.

... I'm assuming your buddy is still on tour, so he's checking these cars
online. Next time get him to confirm the price at the dealer by calling,
emailing them, or getting a friend to check the car personally rather
than trusting the ads alone. There are too many false ads out there
(yes it's the old bait-and-switch technique, yes its illegal, and yes they
still get away with it). Even test-driving a car might not giveaway any of
it's mechanical problems. Most of the slimier dealers know how to patch
up the problem so the vehicle runs well enough to commit the buyer to
a purchase (I've seen some douseys in my day). If you find a car with
a suspiciously low price than bring it to an independent mechanic for
an inspection, or bring a friend that knows his/her cars. Obviously, he'll
have to check the car's history -- Isn't the dealer required to supply you
with a used vehicle package (we have them in Ontario, maybe they have
the same thing in the US via the DMV). The dealer might even have the
carfax report ready to show... haha...

Just don't ask if anyone has unlimited carfax package on the org or you
might get a forum warning (like me) ..just moments after Borsty calls
you a gay/retarded/dumbassdouchebag ..just moments before he goes
back to suckle on his mother's teets... I hear she has five pairs just like
a hyena.

AND BORTSY...
you stalked me for three weeks to insult me, and all you could come up
with is to call me a "retard"? CLASSY!!! Is your redneck speak-and-spell
stuck on the letters D for "douchebag" and R for "retard" again.. because
that's the only diarrhea you ever spit out of your mouth. ever !! I could call
you allot of things Bortsy, but creative will never be one of them.

ahahaahaaa... calling me retarded ahahahah that's rich ahahahahahaa
Pull the plank out of your eye before you try to remove the splinter out
of mine . ahahahahaha.

OIL
... and please bush can't even pronounce the word nuclear let alone go to
Iraq for honourable reasons (another American like Roscoe's buddy might
go to Iraq for honourable reasons -- just not Bush. That's why I hope
Roscoe's buddy gets himself a solid ride; he deserves it for putting his life
on the line for an american idiot. TWICE !!!) Now Bush is planning to sell
F-16 fighters to Pakistan just to keep some of his fellow Texans employed
a little longer. You might not know where Pakistan is located (just like
Bush), but its the same place with very few women's rights laws similar
to Afghanistan before its liberation (check with amnesty international),
same place with active terrorist cells (just look at the suspects in the
recent Egypt bombings), and it's the same place that was the long-
presumed hideout for bin laden after 9/11. Bush is repeating America's
mistakes from Afghanistan when they supplied the mujhaden with
weapons to fight Russia.. and that worked out splendidly after the cold
war ended.Your kids might be going to Pakistan to clean up the current
administration's mistakes while you're paying off the current Iraq war
debt. Of course, that's assuming you'll ever have kids Bortsy, but here's
two helpful hints: 01. the penis goes inside the Vagina 02. a spouse
outside your family bloodlines might produce children with smaller
slackjaws, and an intellect sufficient enough to get them a real job -- not
just a job defrauding disability, or working at the carnival, or getting paid
to masturbate in front of old people. It's too late for you Borsty, but if you
marry a really smart girl, your kids will have a 50/50 chance of making it
in the REAL world.

sheesh!! the fuel you use in your car is a by-product of crude oil from
places like Iraq. America consumes allot of fuel for transportation... For
example, 74% of the fuel used in California goes towards transportation
alone. Moreso, economics dictate that oil price fluctuations take months
to reflect in gas-pump prices. If you actually watch the news, you would
notice that political instability has a greater effect on your fuel than the
current supply issues (ei the death of Saudi Arabia's King Fahd). Iraq's
oil supply is unsecured (just watch the news). Most importantly, Iraq's
oil supply is part of the global supply and the US is a global consumer.
Oil is a non-renewable resource in high demand from growing economic
powers like China. By 2030, China's oil consumption will equal the US
(currently the world's largest oil consumer). Do the math (if you can);
America wants to secure future world oil supplies under the guise of
liberation. All you see is the current price at the pumps when the future
is just around the corner. I may have limited knowledge of politics, but
Bortsy, you don't know D*ck about Bush in more ways than one.

/cuts down tree... laughs.... plants another one.

Personally there are better engineered SUV's out there. I think they are more hype than they deserve. I'd go with a Yukon Denali or Perhaps a Nissan Armada or whatever it is. I'd definatly skip on a H2. Nothing screams "I have a small penis" than tricking out a H2 IMO.

Re: H2 hummer...

its a free nation bro. if you voted for bush than that's cool,
if your buddy wants an H2 than that's cool too. If your
friend doesn't mind being shot at for an H2 than that's his
prerogative. I guess I'm the only one not cool with people
getting shot at. Sorry for caring (no sarcasm intended).

Regardless. I despise H2's. I think they're a bastardized
version of the military purpose H1. Its really ironic, the
H1 was designed to defend our freedoms; the H2 was
designed to jeopardize them (by consuming excessive
resources). I already gave you my opinion regarding the
Wrangler, and pathfinder.

and who knows. maybe I don't have a life, but its still my
life to live. I choose to watch the news, I chose a career
where I don't get shot at. That's my prerogative.

Re the stalking comment. I'm sorry I took a small portion
of your thread to defend myself and my opinion. I thought
this was a free nation. If you want to pick on me than get
in line... Bortsy came here first to confront me (AND not
contribute to this thread). It seems people want me to
respect their opinion just as long as I don't correct them
with facts or offer an opinion of my own. Really, there's
no need to a be a hypocrite.

whats being a republican bush supporter got to do with a Hummer?

And if i bought a car that got significantly less MPG than advertised I'd take it back to. When GM says it gets 10-12 mpg I expect it to get 10-12 not 4-7.

Many people (not me) would say the same about corvettes and ferraris. Why do you need 500hp to get from light to light? Just a thought.

So where did your buddy find H2's that cheap? I mean, could he physically touch the car or was it an internet thing or something w/ some hoops?

well... Corvettes, and Ferraris are good at what they do (within
their respective market segment) -- they actually go fast and
they look good (via better fit+finish)... the H2, on the other hand,
is an incompetent vehicle for its market segment

... The 2005 Chevrolet Corvette (with an auto) gets 18/26MPG.
The 650HP enzo gets 8/12MPG (and it's far too rare to have an
impact on the environment like the H2 -- its not like every Tom,
D*ck, and Harry has an enzo... let alone has one to drive their
spoiled kids to soccer practice). Even the more popular F430
gets 11/16MPG (and that's with its F1 auto transmission). The
H2 actually averages 8MPG in the REAL world. Its 6400lbs
(that's equivalent to two of my XJ's), it has a turning radius
over 43ft (horrible for parking lots, and offroad stunts), and its
cargo capacity is lie when you account for that massive spare
tire in the trunk... and yes the air suspension freezes in colder
climates.

Once again, the H2 is an incompetent vehicle for its market
segment. The corvette, and Ferrari are not... they're actually
good at what they do. The Corvette is a value leader in the
sub-supercar market. The Ferrari is a technological piece of
art. The H2 is an overpriced, gas guzzling bastardized version
of the real deal... the H1. I think the H2 is an insult to the H1.

Re: H2 hummer...

^Its simple... you don't have to buy one then.

Personally I wouldnt buy one either, but I don't care that other people want to and obviously people do because I see them around.

When it comes to the enviromental issues, there are TONS of things I would be more concerned about then the H2 getting 8MPG. (By the way I dont have a problem with the things soon to be listed, so i don't want anyone jumping on me) What about all the racing series around the globe, you going to tell me those are efficient at saving our resources? What about ALL the commerical and industrial vehicles used around the globe? I work for a concrete pumping company and our boom trucks get about 3 maybe 4 MPG and use fuel all day long. What about all the pollutants thrown into the air from factories and mills? What about all the older vehicles driving around with poor emission equipment and sucking down gas?

The thing is there is SOOO much things that I would put before a friggen H2 getting 8 MPG.
Re: H2 hummer...
Saturday, August 06, 2005 9:10 PM

since when did this thread become about me? I'm not the
one with the money here. Dude, I don't care if you spend
your money on a flaming turd, a crack-whore with syphilis,
or an H2. It's not my money, its a free nation, and I'm not
a dictator, I'm just a guy with a valid opinion. I'm not a
bleeding-heart gas-rationing hippie (if I was than why
would I drive a thirsty Jeep). Moreso, I'm not a yuppie with
more money than sense (that's why I don't drive an H2).

please remember two things however (01) Don't compare
apples to oranges... an 8MPG retail H2 CAN be far worst
than a 6MPG commercial transport... especially if that
H2 serves little purpose and if it sells in greater volume.
(02) Just because you see allot of people driving an H2 it
doesn't mean its a smart decision, or a good vehicle for
that matter. Some people are drawn to shiny clichés like
moths are drawn to the fire. For example, all my friends
are smokers, but I quit because it was killing me.. I wasn't
about to keep smoking (and coughing up blood) because
all my friends were doing it. Get it? Its all about making
the best personal decision you can (for now and for later).

... and personally, I'll stick with my original opinion about
the H2 -- its a horrible horrible vehicle. If you want one after
knowing the facts, than congrats... get one and enjoy it.If
you served in Iraq (for oil + freedom??), than congrats...
you actually deserve to enjoy this gas guzzler more than
a wealthy yuppie.... in a way, its what they fought for (no
insults intended -- seriously folks). Besides, talking about
H2's in this thread is a moot point. Roscoe said his buddy
isn't getting one.. right before he told me to get a life....
Sorry Roscoe, I thought you wanted an answer with facts,
opinions, and some history... not a yes or no response.
I swear, the day I learn to be a "yes-man" is the day I'll start
living longer.
