Honda CBR ......wrecked :(
Sunday, July 31, 2005 2:19 PM
I was recently in an accident with my "pretty new to me" Honda CBR 600 F4. I am thinking that the insurance might "total" it.

I am wanting to know some opinions as to whether I should just total it and take the cash, get less cash and keep the bike and sell it as is, or get less cash keep the bike and repair it and sell it. I am just wondering what everyone thinks would be the best financial move for me.

If there is anyone out there that has experience with insurance, etc or trying to sell a wrecked bike please help.

Thanks!

umm usually when its totalled you gotta buy buy it back from insurance, you dont get an option to keep it an get less money or whatever...they will just give you what its worth...book value...an junk the bike, you can then go an buy it from the yard they take it to

Take the motor out and build a wicked shifter cart.

Take the money and run. I definately wouldn't ride a bike that had been wrecked and I wouldn't feel right selling it to someone.

I heard that WV state law won't let you buy back your totalled vehicle from insurance company, but I will look into the buying from junkyard thing.

Sorry to hear about your "incident".

I would write it off, take the money and buy something new. Nobody wants a crashed bike, so the resale will be less than the motor's worth. If you fix it and ride it, remember it only takes one missed crack in the frame to cost your your life.

Take the money and run.

umm..sell it. People def buy wrecked bikes. Lots of people enjoy building them and alot use them to race. So if they dont total is then take the money to fix it and sell it on ebay. if there gunna total it def take the money.

Theres places that strickly sell thousands of wrecked bikes cause they sell..

I guess it depends who's gonna get the blame. If you are at fault (singal vehicicla accident for example) then try to sell it. The problem is, salvage polaces do not pay anything near what you can get if you part it out. Selling it in parts will take a while though. Yes people buy salvaged bikes for other projects, but they generally go to salvage places for that. I was thinking two things, fastest and safest way to get back on the road, and I was assuming it wasn't your fault (no premium increase). Making an at-fault claim will cost you for a few years.

Salvage will pay salvage prices. Insurance will pay replacement cost.. Big difference.

or...sell it on ebay like i said..plenty of people buy them off ebay because its cheaper then a salvage yard..cut out the middle man...

I know this cause i have a friend who buys cars/bikes and rebuilds them. When he cant rebuild a bike to be leagal for a good price he throws it on ebay as salavge..hes never not sold one.
