Hey all if I were to trade in my Grand Prix SE In very good condition, it has a new motor in it with about 60,000 miles on it now since my first engine locked up on me. I just wanted to know how much may you all think the trade in value maybe towards maybe a GTP or whatnot of maybe the same year or even a 98, what do you think I could get for it in a trade in and how much would you all think the price left to pay off on the GTP would be. As I was told it is not advised to engine swap in thr 97 year as there were many changes to the SE that are not with the GTP of that year.
SE? That's the one with the ugly front end that has the grilles the opposite of the GT/GTP, right? I'm guessing you would get around $3500 for it.

They are going for about $7,000.00 Canadian. That would be around 5,690.90 US. Trade in they usually knock the price down further. So, you would probably get a 4,000.00 trade in value approx. Same year GTP's are going for about $13,000.00 Canadian. (10,568.61 USD)
That pretty much means... if you are going to trade it in... You would still be looking at spending approx 7-8K (Taxes etc etc) on top of the trade in...
This all depens on mileage / condition of vehicle etc. This is also a rough estimate. You would need to take the car into the dealership and ask them their trade-in value for your particular vehicle. Also note that after market upgrades (stereo, rims) etc don't really make much a difference in the trade-in price, so you might want to remove those and sell them seperately unless you don't mind loosing money.
Good luck. I myself just picked up a 2002 GTP two weeks ago and I am loving it...
Would you all say the swap would be worth it swapping out the L36 for the L67, or to look for those turbos I heard about for thr L36
eh, hard to say. in order to turbo it the l36, you practically have to build a GTP short block and find some GTP heads. the l36 has too high of a compression ratio and too weak a bottom end to hold up to much boost. dont get me wrong, it's possible and has been done. but if you turbo it you'll be living on borrowed time. you'll be stuck around 4lbs of boost, which isnt much fun. plus because of the extra power the turbod engine will be putting out, it'll kill that tranny. the se/gt tranny that is on the l36 is a different tranny than on the l67. not quite as tough.
as for a swap... dunno what to tell ya. i've heard it's a PITA to do. plus, again, you get that tranny issue in there. you'll have to swap the tranny as well as the engine, and the price could just keep on goin up. i say just look for a nice used GTP and start fresh.

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.
