Hey, well I've grown bored with motocross. I have decided to get a street bike now, I have ridden a couple peoples before but nothin too much.
I am lookin for peoples opinions on 01-02 R6's and CBR F4i's. Pro's and Con's on both.
THanks.
I have many aquaitences with F4is and.. Naa, not the new one with the banana seat, if you like F4is get a 2002, they have a better seat config. I have the 600RR and love it. In little tests of steel, the f4i needs a pipe to keep up with a stock RR, they are closely matched. The RR may outcorner the F4i as well, but few have the skills to exploit that.
Many people I know love the R6, I think it's quite nice looking in black. You may want to check with an owners club to see if they fixed that 2nd gear issue yet. I'm not dure about 2005s but previous years were kinda famous for suddenly having no 2nd gear. Appearently it's easy to fix, just needs a spring for the detent. I could be wrong about the fix. Check with some yammy owners. While your checking out bikes, don't forget the Kawi ZX6R (636), or for track legal ZX6RR(599).
I have ridden a few 6s and most are great, personally I'll take my RR over any of them, but I'm biased. It did win 600 of the year in 2003 and the new 2005 model is slightly better. Something to think about. The F4i is a good bike, and the new ones would be good for distance riding, but if you are looking to throw it through some twistys, Honda has a different bike for you. OH ya, the F4i will need a new cam chain tensioner within a couple seasons, about an $80 fix.
Good luck.

thanks for the input, any other opinions?
Just get the RR you know you want it
I am looking at getting another sportbike myself. I personally like the 05 Ninja ZX-6RR, but I used to own a Kawa bike so I am biased.
05 Kawasaki ZX-6RR Claims top spot!
I am also considering the 05 CBR 600RR....badashe bike!!! Two great bikes......tough decision!!!
You should ride both and see which one you like better.
Well Hondas are alot smoother bikes than yamaha and kawi. I prefer the brute force and roughness of my kawasaki. I've ridden my friends 600rr and it feels slightly slower but the power is delivered much more linearly. I'm not sure about other companies but I know that kawi didn't go fuel injection until 03 so you might want to keep that in mind also as carbeuration will feel a little more sluggish. All are good choices, it all comes down to looks and how the seat feels.

i had a 2000 r6 and loved it. super smooth and pretty easy to wheelie for a 600. however it rider position is very racy and long rides get to you.
my buddy had an f4i (2001 or 02)which i rode several times. its rider position is much more upright than the r6 but the motor feels alot softer. its much harder to wheelie than the r6, however its still not all that hard. over long trips youll be much more comfortable.
for cruising and fun i pic the honda, for all out performance id take the r6.
since you have a motocross background and are not new to bikes i would suggest getting a big bike right off the bat, as you will be wanting more than a 600 in a short amount of time. i bought my r6 new as my 1st street bike and after maybe 2 months i was regretting buying the 600 rather than the 1000.
Don't steal, the government doesn't like competition
The only thing that 1000s do better than a 600 is flat out speed, and stunt. Corners are owned by the 600s (barely). Few riders are able to exploit the true performance of any bike. The 1000s are appealing though, but the insurance is extra, the danger is extra. If you get into trouble on a 600 it would have been much worse on a 1000. That said, buy what you feel is right, just know that the 600s run 10s and the 1000s run 9s with one wheel in the air
I have ridden the Kawi ZX10R and the CBR1000RR, both are great rides with tons of power to spare. The Kawi has a fantastic seat compaired to the Honda, along with a couple extra ponies. The Honda has a very smooth transmission and the nicest clutch I have ever grabbed.
When looking at 600s you should be compairing the R6 to the CBR600RR not the F4i, both are track ready bikes, the F4i used to be a track bike but it is now a bit out of it's league on the track. In the right hands they are all potent weapons. Look at what Zemke and DuHammel can do with those 600s.. Incredible.
1000 or 600 if you are looking at bikes post 2003, they can all spin up the rear and spit you out on a corner, the 1000s will do it just a bit faster.
Save lots of money for good gear. Full leathers, great helmet, good gloves and boots. You'll drop some coin but it may save your life. Winter is the best time to buy gear, the savings are huge.
