I know its been forever since Ive posted on here, Ive had my reasons.
But anyway, I started a new job this summer working for a Honda dealership as a service tech. I was never much of a Honda person myself. They just didnt appeal to me at all. But actually go out and drive one, or hell even work on one. You get a much bigger appreciation for them. They are nice to drive and working on them is so damn easy. I'm always going to love my chevys, but damn, why couldn't GM be smarter with their engineering.
As far as things go right now, I'm looking into buying a new Ridgeline when im done with school. Its a really sweet truck, dont believe me? Go drive one
Anyway, that is all..... I see people bashing hondas in general on here all the time for no reason, so i thought id give my input.
oh yeah, i got to drive an S2000 the other day, drool....
umm the ridgeline has to be the worst vehicle honda has ever made......i can respect all their vehicles besides the ridgeline and the insight, which are both are pretty @!#$ty when comparing it to their class
ridgeline.... 30 grand for a truck that has a v-6 and as much towing capacity as a small truck? wow, sounds great
the accord on the other hand, great build, priced right, the best of the best in it's class
but honestly, their not as relaible as everyone thinks, toyota owns honda EASY as far as relaiblity
The thing about the ridgeline though that I like.....
- The biggest cab in its class (im pretty tall and i have more than enough legroom)
- the bed (a watertight cooler in a truck is uber cool)
- The tailgate opens horizontally and vertically
- A 5000 pound towing capacity ( which is more than enough for the average person )
I could go on about more of the cool features it has. But as far as every other vehicle in its class, Car and Driver rated the Ridgeline the best in just about every category, i was surprised myself. Some of the trucks include the new colorado, the new dakota, and nissan frontier.
I remember seeing the truck at the philly auto show earlier in the year and wasnt impressed. After driving a bunch of them and working on them, they are pretty damn nice.
As far as the worst vehicle honda ever made.... the Passport, trust me on that one
The insight i agree with you on, i hate the stupid thing
I'm considering getting one soon. I'm buying another house and need something that can haul stuff around. I don't need massive towing capability and definitely am impressed with the other aspects of the truck.
I think the other manufacturers will follow suit and start making similar vehicles.
I liked the Ridgeline also. I didn't at first, but did after we test drove one.
We bought the new 05 Odyssey and love it! How do you like working on those? LOL
Passport=Isuzu Rodeo.......we have only had the dreaded Intake Manifold Gasket problem with our Rodeo and that was fixed under warranty. Other than that no problems and they are awesome in snow!
actually for some reason, although i have a huge hate for mini vans, i really like the new odessey. Especially the fully loaded ones with that cool sky blue color. They are ok to work on, just big.
Believe me......the wife and I were totally against getting a minivan. We test drove a Toyota Sienna.....didn't like the way it drove. We liked the look of the new Odyssey and it drove so much better!! Our kids love it....my daughter did not want to get out of the one we test drove...LOL.
It's a pain in the arse to park though!
Car and Driver has to be the worst biased magazine ever. Anyways, there's a review on it on a site I frequent. I can post if you like but it does have some nasty stuff to say about it. Basically, the guy got a load of mulch and the truck had to stay in "vtec" the whole time to get it home. And the C+D comparo was a bust, those other trucks are a fraction of the cost of a Ridgeline. Needless to say, I think it is a major mistake, and so far, the sales numbers agree with me. We'll see how it turns out though.

Yeah I work at a Honda dealer too.
I am a Service Advisor, your a tech huh? Cool. Flat rate? Gone to any schools yet?
Honda, well you have to drive em. I own a 2003 Cav, and I see more 91 Accords than ever, with anywhere from 150K to 300K miles on them.
Less squeaks, rattles, more sturdy feel, and great handling. Amazing cars. Honda built them right then. Now the newer ones have so many little problems. Odyssey sliding door issues, Navigation quitting on them (tech line still doesn have a fix.......you have to connect the - and + terminals together for like an hour to reset the system), etc...
Still for all the little issues they have, they are great cars, better than most. And Honda as a company stands behind the product.
I have seen Honda good will a transmission after the warranty expired. At like 85K miles with no extension. They take care of there customers. They give alot of freedom to the service department to take care of the customers. GM doesnt do that, I worked there before the Honda dealer I am at now.
Great company, great people I work with, all around just GREAT!

i hate to say this word...but ... DUH
why do u think GM is going down the @!#$ter? unless you buy a caddy, your just buying another GM rattle-box.
a big honda guy once told me "hondas are like legos, everything just snaps into place" i am taking that into consederation when buying a new car, cause they are easy to work on.

I wouldn't say that. But alot of the cheaper GM cars are just that.
That is good to know about Honda though. How easy they are to work on.
Okay, i work at a Acura/Audi Dealership here in Maryland...
and i have never seen so many transmission problems in a car...The techs say there easy to work on, but so many little things go wrong...
and im in the Audi parts department...and i dont mind staring at S4's all day
PS: im in process of buying a 02 RSX

We haven't had any issues with our sliding doors **knock on wood** , but our sliding door on the drivers door was misaligned. Fixed already.
I have heard the issues about the Navi also on the ODY forums.....we didn't get the NAVI though.

I personally love hondas as far as the engine dependability. And the resources to build them and the power they can make. (other 4cyl can make just as much power I know) The thing about them I dont like is the young kids that get them with their intakes and fart cans and think its the fastes thing on the planet. You have that with all sport compacts but more so with hondas. Thats the bad thing about hondas not the cars themselves but some of the owners.
Me and the wife bought our first honda it was a 1995 honda civic ex, teil green or what ever had the wheel covers, sunroof etc.We had absolutely no problems with this car.We sold our beloved civic last year since the wife wanted a automatic and more room.I loved this car such a breeze to work on ,one thing from wear was those cv boots.I did all the work otherwise and it only had 101,000 on when sold.We now have a 04 accord ex with the 4cyl for eco reasons.NO issues and a sound car. Can't go wrong with that.
I don't mind owning a Honda.
Interference motor, timing belt, higher maintenance, money goes over seas, doesn’t take any sort of mech\ technician to make one fast, every one and there brother has one, low displacement, over priced, can build a 13sec car out of a cracker jacks box.
But in all honesty, I just don’t like them, bad experiences with them.

I didnt look to see what year you have. I was referring to the 04 and down style. The 05's have had little to no issues.
The cars we see the least of?
Hybrids. We have several customers who bring them in. No problems. One had a transmission noise, but had never done the 30K, or 60K. So the transmission fluid had never been changed (the CVT transmission)......did a flush.......runs wonderful!
No problems at all with them.
The biggest thing about Honda I can say is this.
They stand behind the product. They are the most giving company, and the most willing brand I have seen. They will do almost whatever it takes to make a customer happy. If your out of warranty, by 30,000 miles and need a trans. They will either give you one or pay for like 75 percent of it. Usually the first.
You have no idea how many tourists we get, and how happy it makes them to say its covered. Have a good day. Even customers with 95,96,and 97 Honda's, when I tell them the CEL is covered and they have 100K miles. (Warrany extension).
Good stuff.

Alot of engines are interference.
Timing belt, well same thing.
Higher maintenace to keep the car running right.
Money stays right here (most Hondas are domestic now with the Si being made in the UK, and some Hondas MIJ).
Thats a bad thing?
Everyone has one for a reason. Good damn cars.
More with less. 1.8 liters 170hp - 195 hp 1.6 liters 160 hp
I agree with this somewhat. You do; however, get what you pay for.
Again, a bad thing?

Money still goes over seas,
Parent company is still over there
they also seem a little behind the times,,,
Hear me out, ( I’m not talking about the all mighty VTAK )
Intake in the front,?! GM in the 80's had that.
Hydraulic lifters?! Same agene.
And for V-Tec, GM was playing with it before Honda, they have some good stuff, don’t get me wrong, there just not God's gift to racers like all the kids make them out to be.
On a side note I like building them to run 12's done 3 cars now, I still don’t like them, they’re weak.
It would be different if a H-22 were stock in an EJ, EK, EG. That would have been a good idea.

I didn't like Honda at all, but now that I've ben working for a forign auto group (Acura, Toyota, Handa, and Mazda), I have begun to like honda, or at least appreciate that they are for the most part good cars, (not the present generation Civic). They do have their problems, specifically in when it gets cold in the winter. I've also lost respect for Toyota, I don't really see anything desirable about them (except the Corolla, which is far quieter and better built than many far more expensive cars) but still, I wouldn't buy one. Gm or Honda for me.
the only issue i have with honda is the fact that all but 2 of there cars were rear drive and now they have a all wheel drive car. they are easy to work on, but like with any car once you start doing alot of stuff to them they will have thier weak points. as soon as i turboed my car i started have stupid things go wrong on it. IAC valves went bad all the time, distributor went bad a few times, injectors got stuck open a few times, and then there is the 3 motors i have blown so far. Honestly i would never recomend anyone to buy a honda to go really fast. since they are mostly front drive cars there is a point to were anymore power is useless in any situation other than at the drag strip. once you hit 300whp wich is easy to do with a honda, going any further with it means you no longer have a daily driver, but your car has just turned into a trailor queen.
