I was thinking of possibly buying a used 04 olds alero for about 10990 with approx 31k miles on it and the 4cyl engine. Just wondering... does anyone know if they have had any problems? Are they good reliable cars? I know I should probably post this in a olds forum but I cant find a good one.
Well I will be honest with you, I dont know about the 04s. But the ones made a few years ago had serious problems with the torque convertors, with lots of them going out before 30,000 miles.

I like them, i had one as a rental and really enjoyed it. If you like it, go for it
I'm pretty sure the Alero has the LD9 engine......which we all know is prone to the water pump problem. I don't know, 11,000 seems expensive for a 2 year old car that is out of warranty and does not even have a manufacture anymore.
i know two people who have them, and both have had alot of mecanical, and electrical problems with them
they are kinda nice looking cars tho
I'd rather have an Acheiva.
Decent cars. I have heard that the Alero's and Grand Am's are notorious for brake issues. Mostly extremly high wear rates.
yeah i loved mine i traded it in for my cobalt with the jbp stage one cams (might have been stage twos jbp messed up my order a little still great company though.) and pacesetter header still on it. Best the car could run was a 15.1 at 90 all motor not bad though for a heavier car with the ld9 in it .
the 02 older aleros had the 2.4 , the late 02 up had the eco
only brake issue im aware of is the pedal pulsation , from not tightening the lugs properly
and being its a 4cly its a heavy car for the motor , more so with the eco , cause the 2.4 had the better low end grunt for the heavier cars
id own 1 , and some of the body kits ive seen look pretty nice
the last few years they were pretty good car.
Anything from 02 back though-had issues here and there....
that price is high though...i've seen 04 Aleros w/ miles like that going for 8990...
personally i love my alero, i've got an 03 with the ecotec in it, havn't had any problems so far, i'd check out www.aleromod.com if i were you
