test drove a 2005 type S....I need help haha

ok...its my understanding that the new ones got styling changes, 10 more hp, and an improved gearbox. I'll say this....the new gearbox is sensational. I launched, redlined every gear, didn't even let off the gas to shift (without bouncing the limiter too) and it just loved every minute of it. I couldn't help but to race this car. My main deal is....I want to turbo something.

So, that brings me to this...is the stock compression 10:1, or 11:1? I know it's kind of high. What are people getting away with as far as boost on a stock bottom end'd RSX? If I can turbo one...good chance I'll be turboing mine within the first 1000 miles in the spring hehe

Who cares what the compression is........just boost it anyway with a good tune and you'll be fine

DO IT,DO IT!!!

go check out some rsx forums. pretty sure they'll know a hell of a lot more than we will about the car.

Guy around here is boosting 10psi on stock internals. He's putting down some good numbers at the track also. I/H/E do so much for that car. They are a great engine they just need opened up.

its easier to run a faster time in elevation w/ boost compared to n/a
just so you know

thats still cool tho

also how did they get the 10 more hp? tuning? of better flowing intake and exhaust?

uh no
high elevation effects both boosted and non-boosted cars the same
Just because its boosted, doesnt change the air density going into the intake

they can be boosted but it still comes down to eventually you will break something and need to build it. The compression is just working against ya for longevity.

DTP you shoulda asked me about this at the bash..

The 10 HP is mostly from a cam change (Type R cams). The Type S' engine is an 11:1 compression ratio.

You can comfortably boost the stock internals to 7-8 psi. I think 10 is pushing it but with a good tune it's probably possible.

7 psi has been dyno'ed to ~275 hp to the wheels.

Who needs boost? Those things can run low 14's high13's without even touching the internals. Bolt on's is where it's at .

Brewsan....I didn't drive it till saturday night as soon as I got home

I plan on buying myself a new toy in the spring. If I buy one....I'm going to drive the car home from the dealer, and already have the turbo setup waitin on it. I want it broken in with boost. honestly 6psi would be plenty of boost for me...I'd like to daily drive it still. How much are K20's goin for to replace it?

From what I've seen prices for a new K20A2 (2002-2004 Type S motor) are still pretty high (~$4K) the 2005's have a K20Z1 which'd go for even more.

Biggest probelm with the 05's is the ECU change. Hondata just recently came up with a solution for the 05 ECU..

I dunno if any of the other ECU tuning solutions have managed anything yet for the 05's which might make you choice of turbo kit limited. Though the K-pro is really the only one that matters as far as K series motors are concerned.

This is not entirely correct. While they will both experience some loss of power due to the elevation, the overall effect on the boosted car will be noticably less than on the N/A one.

OUCH on the motor...hmm...we'll see how the market is on these things when it's time for me to buy. Thanks a ton Brewsan!

Cybernation Motorsports

I wanted an RSX real bad for a while and looked up some info on boosting them. I decided to go for a sunfire because of insurance and pretty much everything about those cars are so much more expensive lol. Check their website though they were one of the first people to have turbo kits I think.

Yeah, K20A2's, K20A1's and K20Z1's aren't cheap.. there are a ton of really nice swaps that can be done with them so the demand for them is pretty high.

I'm almost certain that Cybernation was the first to release a kit for the RSX, but these days unless you plan on running retarded amounts of boost (the kind of boost that requires internal work) there are better "kits" out there. The welded log style manifold (vs. a cast manifold) and poorly fitting intercooler piping are the most common problems I've heard with cybernation's kits.
