Honda/Acura NSX retires. New 1 is coming
Wednesday, July 13, 2005 9:19 AM

Acura has officially confirmed that it is developing a new sports car to succeed the long-running NSX supercar. Acura also announced that production of the current generation NSX will cease at the end of the year due to the extensive retooling necessary to meet stringent 2006 emissions and equipment regulations for the U.S., Europe and Asia.
The all-new model will be just as groundbreaking as the 1991 NSX.

Acura designed the NSX as a technological and performance showcase. Among other innovations, it was the first production car to feature an all-aluminum body, chassis, and suspension and to utilize titanium connecting rods. It featured a transversely mounted dual overhead cam V-6 engine equipped with Acura's breakthrough VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system and a variable volume induction system. The next NSX will likely push the technology envelop again, introducing the systems that will enliven Honda/Acura products for years to come

Its intended design direction was from the tantalizing HSC show car on the 2004 circuit, rumored to be the NSX replacement. True to the NSX formula, the carbon-bodied HSC features a 300-plus horsepower mid-engine V-6 shifted via F1-style paddle shifter transmission. Based on the corporation's recent trend with concepts shown in North America, there is good reason to believe this portends of the production model. As a rule, Honda doesn't show a concept Stateside that it doesn't intend to build.

I love NSX'S, my buddy had a 91 that I drove a few times, they handle really well.

That new one looks good too, and I know is more sophisticated but I still prefer the old look I think. I'll wait until I see the production model to make opinions.

Honda needs to get off their asses and make a V8. Plain and simple. The next NSX needs a V8 or at least a turbo V6. If its gonna cost the 90k like the NSX, give me a 2006 Z06 and I can use the spare cash to pick up at Cobalt SS as a daily driver. 15 years and they never upped the HP on the NSX....pathetic.

I like it. A corvette Z06 is probably more car for the money, but I still wouldn't mind driving that around

What, the HP & tq was upped with that 15year period. what are you talking about. the later NSX's even gain 200cc's in displacment. & a Honda V8... that outpout of a large displacement VTEC enigine would prolly be ungodly.

I think Honda has the potential to make a phenomenal V8 all they need to do is take their 4 cyclinder tech and apply it to each bank of a V8. (Imagine a 4.0L equivalent of the K20A1.)

The NSX is long overdue for a complete overhaul but despite this the NSX is still a pretty sweet car. Maybe not for the money anymore but sweet nonetheless. I think the fact it's had fairly minor changes over the last 15 years and is still compared to modern performance cars today attests to how groundbreaking the NSX was for it's time. Performance isn't always measured by HP and 1/4 mile time.

The one thing I don't like is that they're discontinuing the NSX and then releasing this "next NSX" some time down the line. I think Honda should have developed their next supercar and just brought it out as the new NSX, thus keeping the nameplate alive and continuing to build a legacy.

thye arlready have variable valve timing v8's
how do you think ford made a 4.6 push 300hp?

also
cooling v8s its a bit different
+ they would need a tranny to handle the power
id assume a rear diff able to hold the power

isnt the nsx in the same price range as the corvette now ?

honda has plenty of V8 technoligy

the new 1 looks to ferrari like , it needs to have more of its own look , and they do need the V8 in it , not a V6

msrp for a 2005 nsx MSRP: $89,000.00

I'm not sure I like the back too much. I'm very interested to see how they "revise" this car though, it was certainly a flagship for it's day. Yes it will be expensive as always, it's a different style/rare car. You don't buy this thing because you want a fast car, you buy it because you want a car like that. Yea, the Vette is such a "bargain" at $75K right? Maybe back when it was $40-$50k you could say that, but not when it's $70-$75k, now you're in the range of the Viper and I'd take a Viper over a Vette anyday. And Mugen made a V8 for Honda. It was a 4.0L 590hp V8 I think. Not for production though.
