I'm going to look at a Camaro today. The vin says its a 305. The lady says its a 350. What are the noticable differences between the two motors?
Thx guys.
nothing.
what kind of tranny does it have?
and is it stock?
feel free to IM me.

You gotta admit thats something nice about honda. Vin says its a 1.8L LS integra motor. Guy says its a 1.8L Type-R hmm just look at the stamp on the block that says B18C5, heh.
well some years did have stamps and all of them after a certain year did, so i doubht many 80's hondas have a stamp
actually the block should have a 5.0 or 5.7 cast into it , on the later years , but on the F-bodies you cant see it
check the VIN # on the front of the block , just infront of the passenger side head
what year is it ?
the 3rd gens , the 350 had a higher redline on the tach
fbody,.. depends what year, if its a 305, and auto i will be a all 5spd fbodys were 305's.. if its a auto and TPI, its a 350.

Yep.....my parents had one with the 305tpi & auto tranny.
There should be a casting number on the block, however, like mentioned, it is kind of hard to see it.

Also, you can't follow the "all 350's were auto" theory anymore because alot of people have done 5-spd swaps onto a 350, factory doesn't mean much 15 years later.
Its an 87 but it can't be the orig motor if its a 350 because the vin is for a 305. Should be a proud owner of A 350 Camaro in a couple weeks whether its this one or another one.

According to thirdgen.org the only 87 Fbodies that had a 350 were the Firebird GTAs, so unless there was an engine swap...it's a 305.
Here's the info
hm, never seen a 305 auto TPI.... what a wast of space. GIVE ME MY 45 CUBES.....
lol

Well guys I got one. Its an 85 with an engine swap. I know the dude real well. Its a built motor good for 400 hp. Its backed by a 700R4 just finshed being rebuilt. The rear end was redone to handle as much power as I can throw at it. It never seen a single winter. New tires brakes and such. Its going to be getting repainted for $850. I'll have pics today or tommorow.
PS.
The T-Tops don't leak!!! This car is so sick.
nice cant wait for the pics
^^ You're right, I just skimmed the last line. Don't be an ass

Well, my friend has an 87 Iroc-Z Camaro, and it's a 305 TPI/auto tranny. And there are some dumb people who see 5.0 and automatically correlate that with a 350 somehow, so the lady might not really know. Anyways, on the passenger side front of the block, right in front of the cylinder head where it mounts to the block, there will be a serial number stamped, which tells the last 6 digits of the vin, and the group of vehicles it could have been installed in. E.G, Camaro, Carice, Monte Carlo, Malibu, or Chevy truck, Van, ect. And on the rear of the block behind the driver's side head, if it's a 305, it usually has a 5.0 cast into it. The 350's usually have no size casting in that spot.
Currently #4 in Ecotec Forced Induction horsepower ratings. 505.8 WHP 414WTQ!!!
Currently 3rd quickest Ecotec on the .org - 10.949 @ 131.50 MPH!!!

Actually you are part right on this. IF its a 305 HO then it is the same as a 350. But the stock 305's are pooches. My brothers was a 305 HO with a 5 spd behind it. And my friends is a 92 auto with a 305FI in it. but there can be power differences between the 350 and 305.
Roofy wrote: dumb people who see 5.0 and automatically correlate that with a 350 somehow.
they do look axactly the same form the outside, from a quick glance no one would be able to tell the difference.

What about the emissions label on the fan shroud or strut tower (not sure in 3rd gens where its at).
It should also say what the OEM engine was on the very top corner. Of course, fan shrouds can be swapped out....
