It's all about the merc's, if you can afford and find one.

1949-1954 Chevy Styleline or Fleetline
1950-1954 Chevy Bel Air

They are cheap to buy, there are a ton out there, and a lot of parts you can buy and fit from other cars. I am working on a 1950 Styleline Deluxe right now. A good forum for classic chevy cars is CHEVYTALK and a good site with information about 1949-1954 chevy V8 swap and other stuff like that is 50CHEVY

No this is not my car

I am partial to the '37 Ford:

I need to try to find a picture of one that I got from the NSRA car show that I was at earlier this month, it was gorgeous.

Have a good one,
Justin

check out what I just got! My friend told me to come haul this "piece of junk" out of his back yard.

He had been storing it for a friend that moved out of state. several years later his friend says hes sorry, but he doesn't have anywhere to put it, so he can just give it away if he wants to.

I was over there in a minute. Story is, that it was restored at one time, then it was driven up until about 6-7 years ago, when the carb went bad. They took it off, sent it for a rebuild, and never put it back on. It is still in the box in the back seat. looks bran new!

I need to drain the tank, and probably clean it up a bit to check everything out, but the belts and hoses are all fresh looking.

By the way, it is a 1954 Cadillac. the exhaust exits out the bumper and the fuel filler cap is behind the left blinker lens. it came with 'custom mods' from the factory!

** the plan is to primer it flat black...and paint the steel wheels bright red, put some whitewalls on it. I am makin it a "Rat Rod"

The one you posted earlier Nathaniel, is a 1936-37 Lincoln ZEPHYR.

They are popular builds because they look great chopped, channeled and slammed.

Good project cars:

triple 5 Chevys (55-6-7 Belair)
48-50 Mercury coupes (GOOD LUCK! they're damned expensive)
49-55 Cadillacs
50 shoe box Ford
36 Ford Roadsters

If you're looking for a Lead Sled, look for a basket case if you can, because you're going to want to pull the engine/tranny etc. and replace with newer... if you find something somewhat together, it's probably going to cost your some coin initally, and then more when you go to customise due to greater teardown time.

There is another option, you can find most of the cars listed in Fibreglass, and it takes a lot less time to build up. I know the Zephyr's are available like that, and I don't think you're going to find anything in metal for THAT price.

Try http://www.kitcar.com to start out.

good luck!

BatMan: DAMMIT!!!

Give that to me, and I'll have a decent looking car (not concours, but it'll pass at a carshow for restored) in no time.

Look into late 40s through 50s Buicks.
Real easy to work on, all have good engines to work with.
Im making a thread on a bunch of cars I work on in a few minutes.
