Cams and Timing on LS1.
Tuesday, June 21, 2005 7:36 PM
hey a buddy of mine recently bought an ls1 engine from a junkyard for $250 ( car was in a fire and the manifold melted so it looked trashed) any ways he dropped it into his 3rd generation camaro and then he bought a cam for it. So im over at his house and im not the most educated on mechanical work but we eventually got the cam installed. On start up you could hear it making that "cam like" noise but after running it for about a min. the headers on this thing started to Glow red!!! i know theyre not supposed to do that so we kill the engine and we havent fired it up since this morning. i was told that the cam may have advanced the timing too much or something of that matter. Does anyone know how to fix this? like i said im no mechanic (yet). is the problem the cam itself? ne help would be fly?

are the headers clogged? glowing red usually means that he's running lean..
