So im trying to decide on a new bike. And i see that the busa 1300 is selling for 300 less than the 05 R1 at almost every dealer. Iv always considered Busa as fast bikes and the yamahas as good in the twisties.
I compared them and the 1300 is putting out 172 hp and weights 100 pounds more than the 180hp R1.
What is there about the busa that would make me wanna buy it? Is there something speical im missing?
the only thing the busa has going for it is aerodynamics and cubic inches, which make it very easy to get the bike over 200mph. plus theres so much torque there hard to wheelie under 100mph, you will actually spin the tire while in a wheelie.
you will be much happier with the r1. superb handling, awesome looks, 180hp.
Don't steal, the government doesn't like competition
The Busa as stated above, has straight line speed. The R1 has just a little less but is more agile.
Many are happy with the ZX10R as well, if you are looking at bikes in that class.
Price your insurance though, I think you'll find the Busa is less to insure as most companies consider it a sport-touring bike and not a supersport.

i would think that r1 would be faster straight line...after looking at power:weight ratio...and actually the busa is higher for me...
def thinking R1
The Busa has the best areodynamics money can buy, that's why it has a higher top speed. It also has a longer wheelbase making it less prone to wheelies out of the hole. If you were drag racing, the Busa is a good platform to start on. Persoanlly I'd take a Blackhawk (CBRXX) for that purpose, but out of the box, the Busa is a better drag bike.
I love the R1 in that cool wine colour, otherwise I'm a Honda guy.
I reality when it comes to bikes in that class, almost nobody comes close to truely exploiting what the bikes can do. Get the one that pleases your eye, and is the most comfortable. The CBR1000RR is short a few ponies, but who can use them? I love the clutch on the CBR, and the downshift on the ZX10R can't be beat. Shop around, it's a wack of cash for a new litre bike, so take your time, ask around etc.
What are you riding right now?

Even with the power to weight difference, the busa is faster.
...
PS: Not only do the better aerodynamics make it faster, the thing is restricted, or de-tuned.. Getting more power out of a Busa is a matter of un-corking it. Most bikes are tuned near their limit and very high strung. The Busa has been tamed down in an effort to limit it's top speed to 297km/h (true, not indicated). Only the first Busa(s) made came out with full power, everyone since has been slightly de-tuned.
