Truck Suggestions

Dad is looking for a new truck for work and i need some suggestions before he buys a piece of ****. he almost considered a jap. truck... and i almost slapped him

anyways, has to be 2000 or up and very good on the milage. he already has a 4.7 2000 Dodge Durango SLT, and that thing chugs gas. he was hoping for something diesel, but he'll settle for gasoline as long as it gets decent millage. it also has to have rear seats cause sometimes the whole family(5 of us) goes along for trips. each company has a different name for the same thing, but the one with the little suicide doors to get in the back seats looks nice(supercrew?). 4x4 is a must, we live in dominican republic and those off-roadtrips to the moutains arent easy. dads pretty used to the durango, and it rolls over rocks, dirt and grass like if it was pavement so something similar. the truck is going to spent 60% of the time off road so its an important factor. price isnt That important, expecially if the truck is really worth it, but the cheaper the better.

theres a 2000 F150 lariat down the block, but the price tag is pretty steep so we're still looking. i'm leaning towards the f-150 myself.

i would get a new body f150... 04+ just because ford redesigned them so much and they arnt like a truck anymore, now its more like a luxory SUV with a bed on the back...which is nice
also...the supercrew is 4 doors... supercab/extended cab are the ones with the suicide 3/4th doors...theres a post on here about trucks also a lot of ppl voiced their opinions you might want to check it out

If your going to buy a truck, get a ford. I own a GMC right now and wish I had bought the f150 I was looking at.

^^^ Ya, but remember, they cost the same new, but in 5 years the GMC/Chevy will be worth a LOT more then the Ford.

That's funny, because when equally equipted, a 2000 f150 and 2000 1500 (both 4x4, with the largest engines, auto, regular cab, extended bed, etc) are worth the same.

Imagine if people actually posted factual information. This forum probably wouldn't have many posts.

Not around here they're not. Not even close. Usually $4-6000 difference. I hardly call that "worth the same"

Well around here they are both worth $12,000. I HIGHLY doubt there is that big of a differance between the two trucks when equally equipted.

Fords are usually a lot more expensive when new, so by them being the same now, it shows how much the Ford Depreciates.

A Dodge Ram will be a nice truck for Off-Road, a 2000-2001 1500 has a Solid Front Axle which is the better choice for the type of off-road driving that you describe. As far as Diesels, no other Diesel can compare to the Cummins found in the 2500 and 3500 Ram. It is the only Certified Medium-Duty Truck engine found in a light truck, it is also an I-6 which is the ideal setup for a Diesel Engine, and creates more power then the other two Diesels when BOMBed. And the 3/4 and 1-ton trucks have a Straight Axle suspension to this day.

Doubt what you want believe what you want, but you cannot argue with fact.

Low Mileage Sierra

Low Mileage Sierra

High Mileage Sierra

Low Mileage F150

Low Mileage F150

High Mileage F150

All of these trucks where picked off the first page of their search results, except the high mileage F150, as there are not too many high mileage F150s around here as most people trade them in for a Sierra/Silverado as soon as the realize the mistake they made. Are you sure you are not comparing a 2wd Sierra vs. a 4wd F150? That what is sounds like to me, if you think they are "worth the same". Around here, 4wd is everything when it comes to trucks, and you DO pay for it.

Haha, you live in Canada. That isn't even a real country and your opinion doesn't count.

dad decided he doesnt want something too big, since he already has one 8 cyl vehicle. earlier today he was looking at a colorado(the 5 cyl) and he found a nice one, fully loaded with all options. what do you think of those? i havent heard much other than they're "mini silverado's"

I would try to talk to Geeds about it, I know he owns one but I think it is 2wd. My buddy has a 4wd model and loves it.

Have a good one,
Justin

well, you may not like what i'm about to say, but the only trucks that would fill all of your requests would be imports. something like a Tundra:

or a Tacoma:

Titan:

Frontier:

i can almost guarantee you that they all get better gas mileage than their domestic competitors

i dunno, that's just me

i have a 4wd colorado ext cab. i love it. i get pretty good mileage with it also. the 4 door z71's 4x4 can get pretty pricey brand new and there arent too many used around yet since theyre only a year old. the engine is pretty powerful. a little shy on low end torque but they have a great top end.

women are like cars you have to test drive the new one before you trade in the old one

Just drove a Nissan Titan today. It would run circles around a Chevy k1500 with the 5.3l v8 in it.

You can almost guarantee it? Based on what? Do you have any proof they get better gas mileage? Or is it just your opinion? Remember, just because it is an import, doesn't mean it will be better on gas. These are trucks we are talking about here.

The import trucks don't do any better on gas than the domestics, they all spec out basically the same according to their manufacturers when you equip them the same. You could improve it a mile or two based on the rear end gearing though... but thats about it.

If I was buying a truck it wouldn't be a GM or Dodge product... it'd be a F-150 or either of the Toyota trucks. I've had enough fun with GM and DCX products...
