Well, it looks like I will be in the market for a new truck or suv soon. I don't think the old '90 z71 is gonna be around much longer, so I need to think about getting something else.
I am willing to spend up to $14,000cnd (11,500usd), but would rather not go over 10,000. What would you sugest? It must be 4x4, and I would really prefer a v8.
The lot across from where I work has a 97 Yukon for $11,999, I checked on trader.ca, as I thought the price was a little high, but it is actually pretty good for that year Yukon. I think I will go look at it tomorrow, but I need some more ideas too.

I love the yukons. I also love the Durango's and they don't seem to have a real great resale from what I can see. What I always did on a car if I was kinda unsure on but mainly because of price...walk in and low ball em. If they so no big deal move on. If they say yes you just got a sweet deal.
Like the yukon. Check it out make sure you like it, test drive it and when the salesman says "well what do you think" point out every flaw you can find. Say you could live with it but wont go a penny over 10k =P You'd be suprised. If they try and deal with you. Just leave your number and tell them to call you when they can get to 10.
Dodge Ram 2500 CTD, the engine will last you forever, and it is still the same basic engine today as it was back in 1989 when it was introduced in the Ram.

I don't know Saint. Me in a Dodge? What would my father say?

I am going to go look at the Yukon and another truck today.
It is a...
1995 GMC Sierra, ext cab, 4x4 for $4995 (this is really cheap for that truck around here, it probably has a tone of kms on it)

id say any type of 4X4 GMC or chevrolet pickup....95-2000 would probably be in your price range
what about an s-10 with the off-road package? ive always liked those
^^^ The S-10's are too small. I would love another GMC/Chevy 1500, but they are hard to come by around here as no one wants to part with them.
I looked a 97 Jeep GC Limited today, for $5800, the mileage was higher then I would like, but most other GC's of that year are $2-3000 more. Everything looks and feels nice in it, so I am going to go back for another look with my buddy who is a Jeep freak. I will see how that goes. I really liked the look and ride of this SUV.

I'm telling you the CTD is the way to go.

I just have no practical use or need for a diesel. As much as I want a v8, the i6 in the Jeep felt plenty powerful enough for my likes.

Neither do I, but I'm still buying one. Diesels are much better on Fuel then a Gas engine, you can expect Mileage numbers in the 20s, they're a much simpler design, run cooler, and require less maintenance then any comparable gas engine. You can always make your own Bio-Diesel and save a lot of money on fuel.

They are not much better on fuel. They may be a little better, but no more then a couple MPG at the most. Seeing as you are expecting low 20's from the diesel. Hell, my 15 year old Silverado with a worn out 350 still gets 18-20mpg if I drive her nice.
Bottom line is, I would rather a gas engine.

That's 20 in the city, expect about 26-30 mpg on the highway depending on year and condition of the Engine.

LOL, you are persistent.

I know, but honestly Chevy's are great trucks, if Dodge didn't have Cummins, and they might not by the time I'm in the market for a new truck, I'd be getting a Duramax for my next truck.
My Dad has a ZJ Grand Cherokee, it's his 3rd Jeep with the I-6, 2 XJs and the ZJ, and all 3 of the engines have been bullet proof, refusing to die even with my Dad's idea of Maintenance. It's an awesome engine, and the vehicles are tough, I'd love to buy my Dad's ZJ off of him, I'd have A LOT of maintenance ahead of me, but I know the truck will be dependable for years down the road. My Dad's 1st XJ had 120,000 miles on the original Distributor, wires, and I think plugs, and all 3 of his Jeeps have had well over 100,000 miles put on them.
