Contour dies after Highway driving....PLEASE HELP!
Wednesday, June 15, 2005 9:21 AM
Okay my problem is with my 99 ford contour four cylinder (62,000 miles) Im doing alot of city driving now and when I slow down to pay a toll or come to a complete stop my car turns off/dies! But it always starts up right away. Can anyone please tell me what the problem is? This is really pissing me off and I am afraid of getting hit from behind on the Highway. Thanks for JBO for the tips!

Cat converter maybe? My dad had a van that did that...the cat was all clogged up. he put a new one on and it ran like new.

Check your fuel pump. It might be on it's way out and just scraping by on highway driving, and as soon as you come to a stop, there isn't enough gas there for it to run.

My Beetle is doing this right now. Runs PERFECTLY FINE in the city, and runs nice on the highway, but it when you come to like an exit or a toll, it quits. Mine won't start right back up ecause the carb has to get refilled with gas, but you get the picture. My fuel pump is on it's way out...

Thanks JBO!

THANKS TRUEBLUE! I never knew of that site. I am a member of www.contour.org but that site is useless. NO help at all! I posted questions and no one ever answers. Its funny I get more help from the JBO than an actual ford forum!

Gotta love the JBO!
