·An "almost-total revamp of the Saturn showroom," built around sportier new sedans derived from GM's European Opel models and new crossover models.
·And, in 2007, GM has said it will start offering hybrid gas-electric drive systems on its large SUVs that will boost fuel economy 25%.

Saturn turning into a US version of Opel sounds good. Hopefully they can stick to that line of thought and not screw it up thou.

OK, here's the REAL GM 7 Steps to Profitability
1. Quit dropping most of your resources into SUV's
2. Quit scrimping on minor things to save a buck.
3. Enough of the damn incentives already!!!
4. Bitch-slap some sense into the unions, there is no need to have someone making $25-35 an hour to tighten one bolt. And the healthcare BS needs to stop.
5. Cut back the wages on all higher-level employees, if they can't live on $100K a year, they shouldn't be working for the largest corporation in the world.
6. Stop trying to compete with Toyota, strive to be the best, no matter the cost.
7. Never half-ass a new car model, it shows.
Currently #4 in Ecotec Forced Induction horsepower ratings. 505.8 WHP 414WTQ!!!
Currently 3rd quickest Ecotec on the .org - 10.949 @ 131.50 MPH!!!

And what is up with that Solstice...IMO its god ugly.
You know what I think is great about the Solstice is the fact that it was supposedly the fastest made prototype/show car ever made. However guess what we are stick f'ing waiting for it by this rate GM will be bankrupt by the time they decide to bring it out.

... i was kinda hoping for something... fast? maybe a v8 or two? hell, even some nice output v6's. oh well, here's to wishful thinking.
Andy
it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.
ZZP XP cam, 1.6 rockers, 105# springs, speedbuilt FWI, 3.3" modular pulley, TOG headers,
3" exhaust, flomatched injectors
'97 GTP 14.06@100.6mph pre cam w/ 3.5" pulley, I/E
And I have some great names for
ALL these models:
the Buick "bankruptor"
the Saturn "parts-bin slut"
the GMC "gas whore"
the Chevrolet "debt maker"
the Pontiac "unemployer"
the Cadillac "last ditch effort"
the Saab "30k K-car"
the HUMMER "thirsty wannabe"

It's a big deal, they still have to offer the vehicles, even if they're currently unpopular...

Well, it's about time... Not that the Chrysler Pacifica is setting the sales charts on fire, but a respectable crossover would be an asset...

I've said it before, I will say it again. Sh*tcan Saturn NOW! If they REALLY need another car line
, just bring Opel over as is. Forget trying to clothe the Opels in Saturn skins.

They'd better hurry on that one... Even though I may not agree that hybrid is a long-term solution, it's where the market is heading.

Got some details on this topic...
the L300 and ION are being revamped, and possibly renamed.
Both are going to steel body panels.
They will both be opel clones, all the unique 'saturn' design that was put into the cars is being swapped for standard opel / gm design... ho hum (I am okay with that, but I will miss the plastic panels)
The ion will become an 'upscale cobalt clone', and the L300 will be more like the Opel / SAAB designs.
got the info from a guy that did some sheetmetal work for the new 'ion'
I am guessing the VUE will also go with steel panels for 06.
^^You wanna see the "next L300." Check and see the Saturn Aura concept. That is basically it.
Sad to see Saturn loose its identity with its budget price, lots of standard features, unique engineering, and it polymer panels.
If GM is doing clones....again with Saturn, like Geo and I said in the past, just put it out of it misery. That is what we had Oldsmobile for anyways. At least Olds was the oldest nameplate in America and it has history. I say sprinkle a few Opels around the name plates.
If GM wants to keep Saturn, put Scion type cars and cater to the budget minded people, like they did in 1990 for my 1991. Back then it was huge success for GM.

A rare post on this board for me anymore.
Being that I work at a saturn dealer I have some "inside" info
The L Series car is dead. There will be no new models. The Aura will be the "replacement" for the L series.
I'm glad the L is dead. They had alot of problems.
The ION 1 will no longer be offered. Only the ION2 and 3. The body of both the ION and VUE will be getting redesigned and as stated, will get steel body panels. Say goodbye to the weight advantage.
Personally I think GM is moving in the wrong direction with Saturn. Saturn needs to be the entry level, cheap point A to B car. They don't need a minivan, or a roadster. It's not necassary. Saturn found a Niche market and people embraced them and loved the vehicles. While not the prettiest or most powerful cars on the road, the S-Series was a great commuter car. There are alot of people in this country who are sick of gas prices and want something that is reliable and easy on gas. This is the market that Saturn should be going after. Not the "tuner" market with the ION redline. Pontiac is who should have the "tuner" models. Chevy should stick to the family mobiles.
With the exception of the VTi transmission, the VUE is a very nice vehicle. However that should be the biggest thing they have.
GM should axe Pontiac's version of the Equinox/VUE. Take a lesson from the Aztek. I highly doubt this will sell well.
I'm more than likely done buying newer GM vehicles. I've lost alot of interest and faith in them. I'm still a huge Pontiac fan but more of the older stuff. Since they killed the F-Body, nothing that GM has come out with has really set my world on fire. They better pull their head's out of there asses or they will be in deep, deep, crap.
