Anyone check out the July 2005 issue of Car and Driver? It has a nice article on the Shelby GT500..........man what a sweet car.
I need a sig
yeah...they say it runs 12's....some "vette killer" haha I'm not a huge fan, I still prefer the vette

Too bad the new Z06 vette's are running consistand mid 11's!!
i dunno why they keep on camparing the 2....theyre not even in the same class of cars.....i guess chevy keeps putting the stang in the same class cuz the viper spaks them everytime and they cant come in last place
Not unintentionally accelerating since 2009!!!!
actually Ford started comparing the Mustang to corvette a few years ago to make it seem like it was in the corvette, boxster, ect.. kinda classes, when both were still made they were compared to the F-bodies, when GM droped the F-bodies Ford compared it to a vette
We all know Corvette is in Ferrari teritory at a fraction of the price.
As for getting the latest edition of Car and Driver,
Naa I still have not gotten it, after reading the old issue for a month now on the throne, you beg to read something new already.

I disagree with the comment about the vette getting beat by the viper...
The viper is $85,000.
For around $60,000 you can get a Corvette Z06 and get VERY comparable performance.
And if you look at both cars, they are designed for 2 different things. The Viper is a drag car. Straight line pure speed. The Corvette is not designed for that, the Corvette would eat a Viper in the twisties, and hang with it in the drag.
For $85,000 I'm not impressed with the Viper at all.

I think you need to wake up and look how wide a viper is, and how wide a top fuel car is. Notice a difference? Drag cars are narrow, turning cars are wide. Vipers are wide, VERY wide. The viper is a very nice car, it just so happens Vette puts out same numbers for 1000's less, however, vipers are MUCH more exclusive.
Also...you won't get a C6 Z06 for 60k
first of the new Z06 will kill a new viper and second the viper aint a drag strip car. and i love the corvette with all my heart and soul but its no track car either i can turn any better than a viper

Now I would say the Mustang GT's biggest competition is the 2004-2005 GTO....you should see how much @!#$ the guys on LS1GTO.com talk about Mustangs.

How much is the new Z06 going to be???
For an estimated $39,000, you can get the new 460HP Shelby Mustang........
You can't even get the new 400 HP Corvette for $39,000..........

^You don't know that. There have been no official pricing on the C6 Z06 yet. There's only been "estimates" of $58K-$75K

You bring up a legit argument.
But the level of sophistication of the Vette is leaps and bounds higher over any current Mustang.
For the base MSRP of $44K for a Vette is not bad at all.

Another thing I would like to say. The Viper and Vette ARE track cars, Mustang is not. Vipers are just harder to handle because it of its brute force and no electronic safety nets.
In the histotry of Viper vs Vette. Sad to say Viper has won more battles then Vette did. Vette won battles when GM had the ZR-1, then Viper would win when C5 came out but when the Z06 came out it brought in a close match, even with with the Viper's 450HP V-10. With this new Z06, looks like now not only will it win on the road coarse but at the drag strip as well. Best of all it is doing it with 2 cylinders less and 1.3L less too.
All in all a match I am dieing to see.
More importantly, since the C5 came out it competed very damn well with exotics like Ferrari, but with the C6 and Z06 I see it ripping a new one on Ferrari. Hey we did it on the C5-R last season at ALMS races.

The Mustang will do just fine when it comes out, I am betting just a few changes will have it trapping over 120. The biggest problem with it is it's weight, it's a pig.
