I saw 2 people drive somebody else's yesterday. He might have let me

Yeah, but when you're Ian Lacey...you're allowed to do anything
i drove the first one in delaware, a red one without the LSD.....it wasnt super quick, but alot faster then my J of course, i think thats the biggest flaw...20-30 more hp would of made this car one of the best out of the box performers you can buy
the suspension is awsome, the ride was smoothe and not harsh, took the turns pretty well, brakes were AWSOME probably the best perfomance aspect of the car, accerleration was also smoothe with a wide powerband that keeps pulling through all the gears....intererior the dash is so so quality, the seats and nice and comforatable and the room is similar to the cavalier, the trunk is huge and the stock sound system is pretty good and the exhuast has a nice tone to it
overall i liked it more then i was expecting too
Drove one Saturday at the J-BOM BBQ. Didn't want to give the keys back to the owner...
Very strong right off the line, spins the tires without even trying. Clutch is soft and the shifting is sloppy, but those are easily fixed. I would take one in a heart beat. Build quality looks top notch. As another member of my club who drives an S2000 said "Looks like VW decided to build the Cobalt" referencing the quiality and fit of everything. Sad thing is, I think I'd lose in a race to a stock SS now...

It's up to you to decide which you'd rather win.
I drove a base model slowbalt. felt like a fancy cavalier

You could try the Cobalt forum. (You would almost think that jbody.org is *the* Cobalt forum huh?)
Don't know how honest Cobalt owners are going to be though. They just bought the "latest and greatest".

My impression of the interior is similar to yours. The seats in the base model are shaped nice but the fabric pattern was awful. Parts of the interior were cheap plastic, the window cranks for example look like they came right out of a J. Other parts were nice, the guages for example. They still haven't managed to get the steering wheel right in my opinion. I have seen alot of cheap imports with nice three spoke steering wheels that do not scream "grocery getter!". The interior is inconsistent.
The exterior is chunky looking. I guess thats what people want, but it doesn't have the visual appeal of a 3rd gen Cavalier IMHO. Well its a fresh design, so everyone will disagree. The front end really looks tame. The ass-end sits up high. Kinda like a J. Big wheel gaps too, at least on the base model.
It is not as roomy inside as a Cavalier. In fact, I read one test where they had actually put it down one class from the Cavalier from a size standpoint. Don't shoot the messanger, thats what they said not me.
It also weighs quite a bit more than a base J.
A Cavalier LS Sport could tear up the skidpad at a scorching .78 or so g's. The Cobalt SS can do .88 or so. Quite an improvement. I wonder how much of that is due to the improved wheel and tire package. Maybe someone can tell us the g's a base Cobalt will do.
On the plus side it has the J's Eco and Gertrag, but it cost alot more. In Canada base J is $10,900 Base Cobalt or Pursuit is $16,800.
Drove one at the GM Auto Show in Motion...was nice....seats were rediculously comfy, and it rode like it was on rails doing hairpin turns at 40mph...
