so i just picked up an 84 conquest 2.6L 5spd turbo. nice ride, real good condition $450
now i know these can be decently fast stock, but for anyone who knows anything about these what are some of the most typical mods people do to these?
ill have pix up later, once I go pick it up, tonight. had to mess with the fuel pump yesterday to get it running without stalling... so now all i have to do is add brake fluid an power steering fluid and its good to go
Start with the obvious basic bolt ons. Also a FMIC is a good start.
Check your head for cracks, also make sure in injectors work properly remeber there is only two up there in the throtle body. If your head is cracked www.topendperformance.com has a new head that wont crack. your trans and rear you won't have to worry about. always keep an eye for detonation these are known for blowing head gaskets.
check the message boards for vendors lists
they already have FMIC stock.. if yours doesnt, ill sell you one for like $40 lol i picked up one from a conquest last summer at a local junkyard... really wish i could come across one in mint shape.. nice ride.. post pics up

http://www.starquestclub.com/index.pl We're in the middle of a move to a new site, but it'll be up soon. Info on my car is in my profile..
You definately want to intercool it, preferably with a 88-89 setup(14row IC). The 86-87's have a 16 row IC.. The 14 row cools a bit better with a little less pressure drop..
If you can locate a 88-89 donor car, you'd be in pretty good shape.. As almost everything was upgraded over the years..From ignition to ECU, tranny to rear end/half shafts etc... 87's and older have a 225mm flywheel, while the 88-89's have a 240mm unit.. A good bit more holding power with the 88-89's.. They also have 6 bolt half-shafts vs. the 4 bolt unit's on the 87's and older.. Again, they're a little bit stronger...
Here's a technical How-to that's always being added to/updated by yours truely and my friend..

1G MAS(90-94 DSM MAS sensor) Junkyard~$20-30
K&N filter~$30
2.5" or 3" exhaust~$150-350
MBC set to 15psi(limited by 12a's effeciency)~$5-75
Real boost gauge~$50(autometer) Stock boost gauge isn't very accurate past stock boost settings.. It's electrical, not vac sourced...
This setup has gone 13.7's@100-101 with a full weight widebody(3050lbs W/O driver)
HP/TQ is usually around 210hp/280tq at the wheels with this setup, some have seen over 320ft.lbs of torque...
Not too shabby.. Considering the TD05-12a only flows 320CFM@15psi..
I don't want to bore everyone here, so if you have any questions.. Email me, or send me a PM on one of the two sites I listed.. Don't be hesitant to join and ask questions, you just might be suprised with the SQ community...
One last thing.. Some fun:

awesome cars for their age. Extremely hard to find parts for though. My father had one brand new in 87 and it one of the few cars he ever regreted selling. I tried to buy one last summer but there was no way i could use it as a daily driver. As for potential....

Semi-maintenance intensive.
Pick up a 4g63 from a 1g dsm and swap it in. maintain the rwd. Its been done, and is a worthwhile swap IMO.
The Conquest is a beautiful car, engine is SOHC and has some gremlins. The 4g63 would solve all that.

12.69 @ 106.1mph 1.66 = 60ft
Actually, the MUCH easier swap is to use a wideblock g64b(2.4L) out of the 90-92 D50's and MightyMax's.. That way, you can just bolt it up to the stock 2.6 tranny. Instead of swapping the guts from the 2.6L 5-speed into the narrow block D50's tranny, like it's usually done with the narrowblock 4g series engines.. Or finding an adapter plate and running a Toyota W-58 5speed..
Even better, the wideblock(6-bolt for 90-92) g64b doesn't need to have any holes plugged in the top of the block like the 4g64 FWD motor does..
Still though, the 2.6L is plenty capable.. I mean, what other motor can propel a 3000+lb car into the 12's on the TBI? With an intake manifold design that makes the two inside cylinders leaner than the outer two..
Did I mention we're working on reverse engineering a DOHC for the 2.6L?
HKS made a handful, and luckily a member got ahold of the last known HKS racecar in existance..
The only weak link is the pistons, but who doesn't upgrade to forged slugs with a HI-PO build anyways.. Stock crank and rods are damn near bulletproof.. They've held up to a T76 running 54PSI(car ran 9.51@149 at Pamona)...
Another guy snapped the output shaft right off of the tranny at the strip, while still in 1st.. T4 62-1(over 1400CFM) might just do that..
80% of the
gremlins and problems these cars have are caused by neglect, and lackluster owners. Even when these cars were somewhat new, alot of mechanics wouldn't touch them..
Honestly, it doesn't get ANY easier than this.. What's easier than working on a longitudinally mounted SOHC I4? Plenty of room..
I keep hearing the heads crack.. Hmmn, if anyone has tested and abused these motors, it'd be me.. 5 years of pounding the crap out of this car in the AZ desert, the owners before me raced it on a circle track(dirt) for 5 years aswell.. They're just like any other car, take care of it and it'll do you right.. But beat on it repeatedly without checking potential problem areas and it'll bite you in the ass in no time..
Either way though, pick your engine basically.. It's been done..

thanks for all the info so far guys!
i don't have any pix of it yet, but here are the ones I got from the person selling it
the girls dad just got a job in cali so they needed to get rid of it quick since they wanna be leaving for cali by sunday. She wanted $1000 for it but all i had was $450 cash, and asked if i could write a check for the rest since I didn't make it to the bank in time to withdraw it, and she said she'd just take the $450, so i was happy

thats a RWD car?
-Borsty
Yep, RWD.. Disk brakes all around, independant rear suspension.. LSD(from 85.5-89)
That's a good buy you got there.. Few things i'd look at is the frame rails, and rear quarter panels, for rust..
By the way, the new SQC site is online.. Don't be a stranger.. There's a few people in Michigan, including the guys who own the blue car that showed that Z06 what's up..

you guys are making me miss my Quest
Drifting was no problemo in that car. 9inch rear rims, Stock LSD, and a ton of torque...so much fun.....
I don't remember what year it is but my boy jon has an old conquest turbo that he picked up free of charge from his step moms parents. he had to rebuild the engine...almost done its been a little over a year but he recently ran outta funds and played a lot of the waiting game.
well heres a page I made for the car. The only pictures up there are everything thats wrong with it as of right now. Most are easy fixes.
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/862729
The rockers are the only thing thats pretty bad, but i have someone whose gonna go ahead an cut em, and fab up good ones to weld on.
the broken tail lights, i have the replacements in the back seat. the interior is gonna be all black when im done with it. The air dam, I do have the bolts for it. And the parking light on the driver side is hanging like that because I Just replaced the bulb.
other than that the only real body problems are a little rust here and there (easily taken care of) and a scratch down the side.
