Wow what a completely random post.
First of all you are completely wrong, as 97Cavy22 said, the Cobalt and Corolla were ranked highest in the compact class out of vehicles without side impact airbags.
With the side impact airbags, it was even safer, and still ranked in the top of the class.
Please get the facts straight before posting

Im not sure how they ranked that when the test were just released tonight?

no small car ranks good in side impact tests, but as said above, the corolla and ss w/ side airbags are better.

The base model was rated poor, which I believe is the second lowest level. Then the model with side impact air bags was rated the highest level possible. The only other compact car to be rated that high was the Corolla, so you're part right, part wrong.
But even without the side air bags the Cobalt was rated higher than any Cavalier ever was.
Well, just as dangerous? I didnt mean to put SS in the topic thats were I was mistaken really.

you are just a moron nut swinger. thats like saying oh that guy is the best boxer in the special olympics.
^^yea cuz that comment made sense.....
ill deffintly consider getting the side curtain airbags if i get a cobalt tho....the saturn ION has them also right?
Post your source. Until you do, I categorize your babblings as misinformation.
Cobalt

Cavalier
http://www.safercar.gov/NCAP/Cars/3231.html
Note the Cobalt, though only 2 star on driver side impact, is considerably better then the Cavalier.
And lets not even get into your horrendous use of the English language. "Cobalt tested the WORSE in safety?" Maybe you don't know how to read either. Or perhaps your analytical skills suck.
As for worst in its class, take a look at something like the Nissan Sentra for example:

the former." - Albert Einstein
If you think of it, rating are subjective as no crash is controled and speed can be variable. I have seen a 5-star car loose to 3 star car offset head on years back. Second when you purchase a compact you do not consider it for safety, that's oxymoron.
If I remember correctly, I think the one of the best rated GM compact came from the Saturn S-series 2002 and under.
Dave, as for being better? Come on man who are you tring to kid man? One star better? With all its weight and an updated 2005 design you would think it would reach 4-stars atleast, hey Civic did it with 5 stars side on a 2-door and get this, it's only 2500lbs and the design is from 2001.
I am disapointed.
Also here is a comparison of a frontal test pic Cav and Cobalt. Look at that cabin, both intact and willing to bet the doors are operable. Thats what I like.
---------------------------------------------------
The Associated Press reported.
In recent crash tests performed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a four-door Chevrolet Cobalt received two out of five stars in driver's side-impact tests while four-door versions of the Buick LaCrosse and the Saturn Ion got three out of five stars, The Associated Press reported.
For side crash tests, two stars means there's a 21 percent to 25 percent chance of serious injury. The government estimates an 11 percent to 20 percent chance of injury for vehicles receiving three stars. The side-impact test is conducted at 38.5 mph.
For frontal tests, five stars means there is a 10 percent or less chance of serious injury and four stars estimates an 11 percent to 20 percent chance of serious injury. NHTSA conducts the front-impact test at 35 mph.
The Suzuki Verona was the lone vehicle tested to receive three stars in the frontal test, which estimates a 21 percent to 35 percent chance of serious injury.
The Mitsubishi Galant, Toyota Avalon and Volvo V70, all equipped with side air bags, received top scores for all seating positions.
In both frontal crash tests, the LaCrosse and Ion received the government's top mark of five stars.
Other vehicles earning top scores for both frontal tests include: Chevrolet Malibu, Ford Mustang, Honda Accord, Subaru Forester, Toyota Camry, and Volvo XC70.

Now I didnt say its as bad as a cavalier, but its bad like the cavalier.
Also just cause I offended you dave doesnt mean you have to attack me on my part on my error. I admitted I rushed the topic. I didnt mean to put SS and worse should've been worst. Jesus @!#$ christ. I saw this on TV by the way if you cant deter what My first part meant.

jk dude don't take it so personally, but it's really annoying to see ANOTHER anti-cobalt post especially when it's incorrect.
Enough people on this board bash the car, at least find some correct information before you start another flame war. thanks.
i actually heard this last night on the news also...but that was right as i got into bed so i didnt feel like gettin up an makin a post about it...
weird...on the news about a month ago i heard how good it was..then last night i heard it didnt do so well..
It didn't do so well????
It got a "good" rating on everything except side impact w/o side airbags...
That's better than ANY other car, including the Corolla....
If that's not good then what do you want out of an entry level compact car? lol
yay base model cavalier, looks like i am going to die

Well obviously, but they have to have a standard rating system. The system is not there to provide information about
every possible crash, its designed to show the structural integrity of a car and see how it would perform in a typical crash.

Too bad for you Dave actually knows what he's talking about. You are a misguided moron, and the only reason you are posting in this thread is to bash the Cobalt, as usual of course.

"All that extra weight" - what the hell are you even talking about?? Its got like 200lbs on the Cavalier, not enough to influence crash results. The Cavalier is one of the most unsafe compact cars on the road, it doesn't even make sense to compare the two.

Nobody cares. You are always disappointed about something with GM no matter how good it may be, get a life.
