if anybody can gimme some help on this..I'm supposed to change the radio on a 99 jeep and i have 2 questions
1-is the radio removal itself hard? like is their hidden screws in the dash on something or is it easy to take it out?
2-the jeep has this "stick" that u can play with .that moves the sound to different speakers..when the new radio goes in ..is that still gonna work? meaning is it connected with the stock radio or with the speakers only?
Pop the grill work that covers the area of the defrost discharge. You will see two screws that need removed, then the entire center dash will pull off. Just tug it won't break. Don't forget the screw behind the ash tray (at least in my friends 98). They have spring clips that hold it in place (the whole cover). Once the screws are out, a little tug will do it.
After you get the console off, you will see four screws that hold the radio in place.
However, there may also be a 10mm security bolt on the back of the radio. Take out your glove box (open door, slide strap out of slot, lower door, pull off hinges), stick your hand behid the radio and feel around for a bolt on the back of the radio. Of course, if you take the four screws out and it pops free, then there is no security bolt.
While you have the glove box out, notice the antenna wire. It might be wrapped in foam. There is an in-line connector to allow you some slack in the antenna wire when removing the radio. Be sure to reconnect when you put it back together. The connectors on the back of the radio have locking tabs on the bottom.
Have a good one,
Justin
^ well, he got the removal for you
the stick is the balance/fade controls. aftermarket radios have that built in (usually digitally). it will still work, although i always leave my radios set at 0 for both.
