Since its launch as a 2003 model, the Silverado SS has been an all-wheel-drive truck. It has always had muscle underhood, thanks to its 6.0-liter V8 boasting 345 hp at 5200 rpm and a torque rating of 380 lb-ft at 4000 rpm, mated to a Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic. The extended-cab truck’s Z60 performance upgrade features sport-tuned suspension bits and 20-inch rims.
It is a potent package, but one that left some customers wanting more when the awd kicked in and spoiled the tire-squealing histrionics delivered by other sport trucks like the Dodge Ram SRT-10 and the discontinued Ford SVT Lightning. Want no more, Bow Tie Brigade.
Chevy also dialed back the new variant’s trim level, lowering the price to just north of $36,000, a substantial savings over the awd model. The truck moved to a front-disc, rear-drum brake setup compared with the awd model’s four-wheel discs.
As GM’s present full-size trucks near the end of the production line, the addition of the Silverado SS rear-drivers couldn’t be a better way to send them out in a tire-smoking blaze of glory.

GM did this for the whole lineup of 1500 Silverados. Wrong move there GM!
I wonder if GM will bring them back with the new model.
GM has a nasty habbit lately to decontent the last years of one product, to make the new replacement look better. hmmm?

GM's been bastardizing the SS logo for quite some time now.. SS these days usually means, bigger/uglier rims, ugly body kit, and 50 more HP..

NEEDS MORE POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least put the LS2 in there.....jeez

Truck is nice, I'll give it that.. There's one exactly like that at my local GM dealership.. I drool everytime I see it.. lol.. But it needs more power to compete with Dodge/Ford.. Drop an LS2 from the GTO in there and call it a day.. Or at least Supercharge it!

yeah rear drums what the hell is with that ???
since the new body trucks came out in 99 not 1 of them has had drums , they have all been 4 wheel disks
thats a bad move , allthough i think the rwd is a bad move as well
they should dialed the trim back , and tossed a s/c on it
I wouldn't be suprised to see the LS2 in a Next Generation Silverado SS, since GMs throwng that engine in anything that's supposed to be a performance model
Yella02-I promise I will return to you in one piece and this will stay up until I am safely home
