Well i'm a mechanic at Barksdale Air Force Base (vehicle mechanic). We just got a bunch of new trucks in the other day. One being a 2005 Chevy Colorado base model with a 2.8 4 cylinder automatic. It had 4 miles on it. My job was to check it out and make sure everything was fine.
So I check the lights, the belts, the fluids...hmm tranny fluid is a bit low...thats odd. Whats this a puddle under the vehicle? Well after further inspection this brand new colorado is leaking tranny fluid from the lines going into the radiator to cool the fluid. Oh it gets better. Its also leaking around the transmission pan. WTF?!? So we had to send it in under warranty work. 4 miles on it and its already @!#$ up.
We got it back today and I took it for a test drive. My god what a dog! You floor it and after waiting about 4 seconds (no exageration) it kicks in...rev's up but you dont really go any faster. The motor just gets louder.
Oh yea no I wasn't redlining the truck. Not that dumb I know it needs broke in first.
On a positive note...we did just get 14 new Silverado's with the 5.3l V8 in them.
From what I've seen of the Colorado they seem to be about the cheapest built truck I've ever seen. One guy I was talking to drives one that has no power locks, Problem is there's no keyhole on the passenger door, the only way to unlock the door is to crawl across the seats lol.

lol
if you knew our shops problems w/ the f150s lol
Colorados have more problems then Micheal Jackson. There was about a million TSB's out on them within the first month of production.

that's better than the bazillion or so that were out for the 95-01ish cavaliers...
There are about 140 for the 2004 i5 Colorado and about 388 for the 95 z24. The major differance, we have had 10 years to find all of the problems with the z24. Imagine how many problems we will know of when the Colorado is 10 years old.
This is the first I've heard of problems with the Colorado/Canyon. My buddy has a Canyon SLE 4x4 Crew Cab, and his is really nice. But we're comparing the lowest model with the highest model. I don't know, but I think they're alot nicer (looks) than the S-10/Sonoma.
ive herd these trucks are pretty nice....
even consumer reports said the ride quality and everything was on top of all small trucks
and for the brand new truck leaking, stuff liek that happends , i dont care which manufactuer it is, but no ones perfect

EXACTLY. stuff like that CAN happen...not normally, but it exists. hell, i've heard of stuff like Corollas catching on fire going down the highway - but does that stop people from buying them? hardly.

Yes but someone should have caught that before it got to us. It was puddeling pretty fast. It was a good size leak.
Overall I do like the truck. Very easy to reach all the filters. Very user friendly and even being a bottom of the line base model it drove great. It was VERY easy to get going 40-50 and not even know it.

thats why you never buy a first year run of a completely new vehicle
I didn't like the Colorado I was given, it was an LS I-5 Crew Cab. I hated the ride, and the acceleration, the engine didn't feel like a truck engine at all there was no bottom end grunt. Then again it could be that my only basis for comparison was my 2001 Durango 287 V-8, which is definitely in a different class.
Yella02-I promise I will return to you in one piece and this will stay up until I am safely home
