Alright guys/gals as you know I had a heating problem with my 1990 inline 6 jeep cherokee. And thanks to the JBO, I figured out what to do! (Many thanks)
Sooooooooo here is another question. The problem now is that my jeep wont turn over now and my battery keeps dying out. So what can be the problem. I just put in a new starter about 6 months ago,new spark plugs and wires. When I try to turn it over I hear nothing not even an attempt to turn over. The thing is the radio and lights turn on, but when I try to start it in the morning its completely dead!! Im seriously confused. Thanks JBO!!!
( Is it time for me to junk it???? I would like to keep it, its so much fun! when its running hahah)

It could be something as simple as the crank position sensor. If it is the sensor and went bad then replace it. It should be located on the bell housing that is held by two 13mm bolts (if I remember correctly).
You could also check and see if you need a new alternator or not.
Have a good one,
Justin
Yeah I did buy a new crank shaft position senor. So it might me my alternator. Thanks I'll give it a try.

Yella02-I promise I will return to you in one piece and this will stay up until I am safely home
that or a bad ground, try nocking all that corrosion around the battery and cables, there or get new battery cables and posts.

new starter about 6 months ago,new spark plugs and wires, crank position sensor, now a new alternator...... sounds like your heading down that road of spending alot of money on repairs... if you can afford it, trade it in on a newer one.... IMO its prbably at the point were your going to replace something or other one week after the next or at least its getting threre soon, and for being 15 years old id say its done its job.
Have your altenator tested first. This was the same thing my car was doing and it needed an altenator. Make sure when they test it they do a "load test" Also you can try and jump it. If it jumps then you know its something electrical like the Altenator. As stated also it could be a bad ground. If the altenator checks out good then check the ground, also make sure your battery is holding a good charge.
Check the wiring to the alternator and the negative ground wire. As my Camaro had the same problem. There was a part of the wire (to the alternator) that was crimped to much and I burned up an alternator before I found the bad spot.
if the alternator is bad, buy a new battery also, when one goes bad the other tends to screw over the other one.

Kinda true, its hard on a battery to drain it out. If its a good battery it should be ok. If its some cheap battery then yea its probably bad.
Probably your alternator, that's my biggest beef w/ XJs they stuck it at the bottom of the engine where all the mud and crap flies up into it. Get one w/ a lifetime warranty cuz when you go offroad you'll probably fry at least one a season
. (been there done that) Wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the ground wires too, I know mine needs that they get pretty worn out after 15+ years. What is your voltmeter reading with the engine running with no lights on? Then see if what its reading with your lights on. If its around 9V or less with your lights on its your alternator or ground. If its reading 13V or more though it may be something else. Also for those who don't know the 4.0 is one of the most reliable engines ever made, if you keep up with it you should be good til 250k or more miles at least. There are some guys who have over 350k on original engines. Mine lasted til almost 200k before I replaced it but it had been treated like crap by the previous owners. Hey man,
My g/f has a 1990 Wrangler Inline 6 just like yours and has had that SAME EXACT problem.
We replaced the starter, checked the grounds, replaced the alternator, the CPS, Rotor cap, it was a nightmare.
Then one day we figured it could be one more thing. It could be the reverse/neutral lockout switch. Try cranking the key while shifting the gear level through gears. Like what I mean is, turn the key (don't hold the key, keep turning it to start/run/start/run, all while shifting through the gears). It takes two hands to do it and you might need actually 2 people to perfect it.
We realized this is the problem, but haven't gotten around to fixing it. I imagine the switch would need to be replaced, but we just repeat the gear shifting/key turning key process whenever we drive it, we got used to it.
Oh, and try this with the parking brake on!!!!!!!
Yea fudd is right. I hate working with volt meters. Just turn on your headlights, brights, 4 way flashers, then crank the radio up. If the blinkers stop blinking or the radio shuts off...you're not getting enough juice =P lol.
Like I said. Try and jump start it.
I dont know how mechanically enclined you are so dont be insulted when I say.
Connect the power wire to your jeep. Ground it out (you can ground it on the battery but you're not really suppose to) take another vehicle thats already running. Gonnect the power wire on it also to the battery. Ground it out also. Let it set for a few seconds then try and turn the jeep over. I bet anything you get results.
Now with the jeep running stick a screw driver just behind the altenator. Kinda buy the slots (be careful of the belts) you should feel a small pull like a magnet if its working correctly. The old trick use to be with the vehicle running disconnect the battery. However with newer vehicles dont do that. It can send power back into the computer and burn it up (not likely but who wants to chance it?)
^^^ easy fix for that, ground the starter relay it should be the same as the XJ which is the brown wire if I remember right, just run a ground to that and it will start, be careful though, it will start in gear now. This is how the 5spds are wired. I did this when I swapped my auto for a 5spd. Took me a whole day to figure out lol Another idea is to take the switch off the side of the tranny and clean it. Those switches are stinkin expensive though. Does she have the four spd or three spd? I have a switch for a four spd if you're interested.

after reading its actually the black wire on the relay that goes to the switch... "A" on this diagram:
