The Dumbest thing happen to me today, I went to go look at my car which is a Volkswagen Jetta VR6, but that's not the point, my friend saw a 2002 Wolfsburg that he liked, so we asked to test drive. He was like it's just off the truck, and he hasn't driven it yet, but he gave us the keys anyway. We drive off, well my friend isn't an expert with manual trans but he can manage. So we drive off and he trys to take off fast, but the car just bogs slow as crap, and we are like wtf, but we say whateva, we get down the street, and he was like you wanna try it out, so I'm like ya. I've been driving manuals since I was 15, so I know how to drive it, but when I get in I knew something was wrong, I turn out of this parking we pulled into and get back on the main street, as I get to about 3 and half grand I go to change gears, press the gas, and nothing happens, just reving like I'm in neutral, I'm like i know I don't have it in neutral I shift outta 2 and put it back in, and again nothing. So I creep into this neighborhood luckily I was on a hill so I got a little speed. Stop the car got out, and I smelt burnt clutch, so I'm like wtf. Car wouldn't move in any direction, so we had to call the dealership, and get them to come get us, and they had to tow the car back.
So I'm now thinkin should I even buy a car from that dealership or not, someone give me some insight is this common on VW's I know I should go to a VW website, and I'm on vwvortex.com but just wanted to see what other people had to say.

Obviously you've never driven or ridden in one. I love it when people put down a car because of something small or one incident. I've had a Passat for over 2 years now and not a single problem. Freaking kids.
Is that a...a...a... a Cavalier?

Is that why German cars are number 1 for most unreliable cars? VW and Mercede's were top of the list. No one said they were cheap, ugly, slow, rough ride. They just said in general they suck. Which they do. They are very un-reliable. You've had yours for 2 years and no problems. Well consider yourself lucky. I guess every VW is an awesome car because your 1 car has had no problems. Way to go dumb ass.
Before you get on here talking about "kids" and how we know nothing make sure you know what the @!#$ you're talking about on your own piece of @!#$.
Everyone is saying ask darkstarts, he'll tell you they are pieces of @!#$. Why? oh maybe because he's a mechanic at a VW dealership. But what would he know. He's just a kid to.
i drove my sisters passat, and when i floored it i broke the axle lol not kidding, so she got a new one and wants to get rid of it

With the amount of time I've spent under the hood of my co-worker's Beetle, and knowing of 2 other friends with Passats with 100's of problems...I'd say its safe to assume newer VW's are not up to par with the old one's.
Build quality used to be much better than it is today. I think that stems from shipping their production to South America and Mexico. But that's just me.

This is coming from someone who drives a 91 talon
last i heard they were pretty reliable cars...lol........im not trying to single you out or anything but I know alot of people who own vw's as well with no problems.
my buddy has a gti and its awesome. its 400hp and fully worked. nice little car
DarkStars LOVES VW........ to piss on that is. lol
Nope.
G/f's mom has had 3... count that 3 Eurovans/Vanagons in a time period of 5 years.
Hmm... that's odd. One overheated and melted part of a head, one caught on fire in traffic, and this one is already giving her electrical problems, with the millions of POS sensors they put in that car. And each of them has had LESS than 70,000 miles on them.
I hate VW, I will never buy a VW, and if I ever got one for free, I would sell it even if the person offered me $50 for it. It's funny how most of the unreliable cars that people think, turn out to be some of the most reliable. I'm not saying my car is God-like, but VW's do suck. There's a reason you don't see THAT MANY old VW's on the road now.
I didnt want to believe it either. I wanted an Audi A4 for the longest time after i drove my friends. That was until her car was at the shop seemingly every other week for MAJOR repairs. What a mney pit that car is. Its so beautiful too, its just sad
my brother had a 95 jetta that was a money pitt. The thing was broken every other week. I had to drive that piece around everywhere while he drove my cavalier which wasnt broken to work because his car wouldnt make it. We got rid of that car and have been happy ever since.

So, I drive a 91 talon. Whats that have to do with a VW? Like you have so much room to talk. You drive a 96 2.2ohv @!#$ter and are a damn grocerey store clerk. Doesn't get much lower then that. Atleast learn to quote someone. Good god all you have to do is hit the "Quote" button. Apparently i'm not the only one who says they are un-reliable. Since this thread is filling up nicely with people saying the same thing. Way to go dumb ass.
VW's rule. my 03 passat is kicking ass.. knock on wood...
Lol, got extra window motors?
...
no but i have extra warranty, all i need, im not keeping the car for long , probably 2 or 3 years. and the value of it will still be better then it is with most cars, especially american cars.
so all in all im satisfied with my 03 gls and my dad is satisfied with his 01 gls.
