i love those my buddy had one of those and it got stolen and stripped that was a sad day.
looks great though
Wow... a real GNX.
Rumor has it that every GNX owner knows eachother and what number GNX they have.
Not sure if it's true or not, but very nice still. I would take one in a heartbeat.
Yea these seem to be a target for getting stolen... We had just a plane 87 Grand National before this and it was stolen and only thing that the police found were the headers and doors.... Was your buddies just a Grand National or was it the GNX?

Its kind of true i guess... being rare you kind of hear who owns what number of GNX and where it is in North American and what not... Only thing is, is that now people with just normal Grand Nationals can get their hands on a lot of the GNX parts like fender flairs, engine vents, GNX wheels GNX badges ect.... so its hard to tell what is a real GNX (the passenger dash will always have a number from 2-547 if its a true GNX and the Differential case will have "GNX" stamped into it if its real and also if you get under the back end you will see a lot more suspension mods then a GN would have)
Nice Buick. Very clean!
I always like hearing them described as "Darth Vader's Staff Car".

My friend had an 87 Grand National. That car responded to mods so well. He easily ran mid 12's on street tires, high 11's on slicks.
Dude thats just @!#$ beautiful!!!! I would give both of my nuts for that car!!!! Take good care of it or i'll hunt your ass down and beat you to death.
Ever run her at the track?

dude those cars kick ass
back when i used to street race in L.A. , i was picking on some mid 70's vette , on my way to the street races , next thing i know the vette stoped about 200ft short of the light , and i was
, just as the light was about to turn green a black car pulled up next to me , and before i could realize what it was the light went green , and it was gone as quick as it showed up
so i chased it , he stoped for the next light , as i caught up , i realized it was a GNX , and not a GN , the guy had limo tinted windows all around , im lookin and laughing , the passenger window rolls down about half way , guy says "NEXT TIME PICK ON SOME ONE YOUR OWN SIZE" window rolls back up
i was
, as was my g/f that was with me
and we went at it again , this time i was ready for the race , i beat him accross the intersection , after that he passed m and was gone , lol
the car i was in is my 68 elcamino 400 hp 360ci 4spd 4:10's , so my car was not something slow
there is a sweet ass GNX in the new PHR magazine , its built too and looks stock , its #059
i love those cars , darth vader at his finest hour !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep i think 2 years ago we had it at the track and it wasn't tuned the best and A LOT more parts have gone on since then.. but it ran i think low to mid 12's on 5cyl's.... as one spark plug was in half and we could not get traction to save our lives so that didn't help on the times, but now with the new custom rims coming with 335/40/17 tires on the back traction should be pretty good... also this summer the plan is to be running around 550hp-600hp at the wheels, then this winter a new engine is going to be dropped in, and it will just be a little bit stronger and will be able to take the abuse..

ahaha yea the elcamino's were no slow car by any means, they could hold their own against almost any car out there... Grand Nationals and GNX's are very easy to make fast, and respond very well to mods (if done properly).. we have about $25,000 in upgrades on the GNX right now.
ok someone explain the difference between a GN and a GNX
-Borsty
Inter cooled Engine.
Heres a pic of my 85 GN engine. look at the differences between the two. My turbo blows straight down into the intake manifold. (btw 85 was the first year of computer controlled)
Verrry nice I love GNs and the GNXs well they're only one of the best 80s cars. They're like the last cry of the muscle cars.
<img src="http://www.geocities.com/fudd_22602/elmer-shoot.gif"> Old school Js rock
GNX = F*** YEA! Those are nice muscle cars.
the gnx has larger wheels , and more suspension mods
im dont remember if they had more power than the GN or not
Not to sound like a retard, but since the topic is up:
What are the differnces between a GNX, a Grand National, and a Regal T-Type?
I know they all have a 3.8 turbo, and share a platform.
Just something I've been wondering about.
I ran into one of the three with my PGT (which I thought was quick...), anyhow, as he blew my doors off, I read his plate frame:
"This Buick eats Fords and @!#$s Mopars"
Just thought I'd share, thought it was funny.
..and forgot to mention to the owner, hellified, completely.
Beautiful.
Differences between a GN and a T-type are
Read end GN=3.73 T-Type 2. something
Suspension is tighter in the GN
GN better interior IMO
Basically the GN was geared for the race crowd while the T-type was geared for the people who wanted good power but not give up there comfort.
I am sure there is more but I am tired right now and I cant think.

ok Buick Wanted to end of the production of the Grand National in a good way so they sent 547 Grand Nationals to Mclaren to be modified. More hp and tq was added, fender flares, engine vents, 16inch wheels with the honey comb pattern (they were just the Turbo Trans am rims painted black), beefed up rear suspension and GNX badging and a number from 2-547 on the passenger side dash.
here are the numbers for the GNX straight from the factory.

It was the fastest Production car in 1987. They raced a bone stock GNX against a Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette and every time the GNX won. here is the video.
GNX Vs. Twin turbo vette
oh and i forgot to add in... we had a 87 Grand National with the normal mods, headers, new chip and a few other small things and i thought it was fast... the GNX was a lot faster in stock form then the Grand National after some light mods... But for thoughs of you looking to buy a nice car with power, find a 87 Grand National for around $6000-$10000 and buy it.... put in $2000 into the engine and people will be scratching their heads wondering what the F&^% just happened as you pull 2....3...4.....5 car lengths a head of them with ease and continue pulling on them until they just give up.

GTA rims, which came in black, and they arent TTA rims because those came before the TTA existance
-Borsty
If i am not mistaken the Turbo Trans Ams were in 1987 because they have the Grand National 3.8L V6 turbo engine in them.. Either way they were the same as the Trans Am rims...
very nice...makes me want one

1989 20th anniversary edition. 1550 produced and yes TTA had the GN 3.8
but the rims were just normal GTA rims.
