you pop the hood and see what engine is in there. chances are it's a LT1. maybe even supercharged if it's the state fuzz car. also the possibility of a 6 banger. who knows though, just look. i'm guessing it has decent horse like around 300 somewhere or not to far away from that. it would give alot of people a run for the money and a fun project to embark apon.

well one dealer said he had a 2000 Impala Police Package with a V-8 i just wasnt sure if it was a mistake or not so does anyone no the hp and torque for this model? i was thinking getting a crown vic but due to the explosion hazard if u get hit from behind i'll pass. im a firefighter and goin to a call people dont move and the chance of gettin into an accident is great so i dont wanna chance that

If I remember right

-3800 Series 2 V6 (N/A)
-Upgraded brakes
-steel wheels with center cap
-power harness to install computers and lights
-power steering cooler
-axles are sturdier for rough roads
-Suspension is stiffer

Not sure on the tranny if something was done but I know it still uses the 4t60-E auto.

Yes its a 3800 Series II V6. I am positive on that. I work on them daily (vehicle maintenance in the Air Force). They are @!#$ to work on. Worst design they could put in a car. I dont know about standard impala's but I know the cop cars have 4-wheel disc. I also know it does have plug ins for light bars computer etc.. most of the time its cloth up front and vinyl in the rear. I'm not sure about the stiffer suspension and I dont believe the tranny is any different from any other 3800 Series II motor.

Its a 1/10 slower then the Police Intercepter.
Impala 16.9
Police Intercepter 16.8
Dodge Intreped 16.5
Mercury Marauder 14.9
Camaro SS 13.1
H1 Hummer 20.0

BUT Now you know, cause you're Jon Doe, in a black bag, a tag on your toe, I built the Honda, I felt the pain, you're victimized with no one to blame, you're just another victim kid.....

^^ It does, however, get better Gas Mileage, and it's easier to put a full shield between the driver's seat and rear passenger area.

If you're looking for a Police Package Impala, you'd have to look for (IIRC) the DUTY package. Best place to find those kinds of vehicles is at a state assets auction. They'll usually have over 500,000 km/or 300,000 miles, and not every time do they fix everything. Red Assassin is right, they have a little extra wiring for the light bar, but that's not factory... Different light bars have different wiring... I would look for one that is specifically a "SUPERVISORS" car as it hasn't been beaten to death on the road and usually hasn't had the roof drilled.

There are heavy duty parts from GM that are specifically for police and Taxi use, although, I'm pretty certain it's only for durability, and not really performance.

The 3800 V6 is the only engine available, and it's the same as the standard one you'd find in any other vehicle.

My advice: if you're looking specifically for a police vehicle, I'd go with a Crown Vic Police Interceptor because its lot more durable (RWD) even if it's using a pig of an engine to lug its ass around.

My question: What are you looking for a duty vehicle for?

Ummm even if it had a v8 in it... why would GM use the lt1 when the were putting the ls1 in everything for what? 3 years at that point.

They top out at 130mph so it will end up catching you
Try running from the Marauder or the SS lol

It could very well be. I think there is a misconception that cop cars are fast.
Except for the Z28 that is.

Try running from the radio they are going to use, to call ahead, ha ha.

Anyways I have always wanted a Mercury Marauder, I love the looks of them in black with chrome rims. There is one near me that is lowered and everything.
