GM Press Release

Chevrolet has announced that pricing for the 2006 Chevy HHR will start at $15,990.

HHR will be offered in three different models, the company said in a news release. The MSRP for the LS will be $15,990. The MSRP for the HHR 1LT will be $16,990. Pricing for the 2LT will be $18,790. Pricing includes destination and freight charges.

"We believe this competitive pricing will encourage consumers to get to know our all-new, innovative Chevy HHR when it hits the market later this year," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager.

Chevy says "the HHR is designed for consumers who need the storage of a utility, the ride comfort of a car, and styling that lets them stand out from the crowd. The vehicle offers a complete fold-flat interior, from the front passenger area to the liftgate — large enough to fit an 8' extension ladder."

HHR offers several other convenient storage areas including an auxiliary glove box, two large storage bins behind the rear seat, and holders for plastic bags on the rear compartment bin.

Standard features on the LS and LT models include air conditioning, power windows, door locks and outside mirrors, six-speaker CD stereo with auxiliary input jack for iPods or other devices, and remote keyless entry. Additional features include a driver information center and driver and front passenger frontal air bags. Available options include remote start (standard with an automatic transmission), an upgraded audio system, sunroof with express open and close, and 16" and 17" wheel options. Head curtain side air bags for front- and rear-seat outboard passengers are also optional.

The 1LT model also includes a standard MP3 player, eight-way power seat including power lumbar, a satin exterior finish and cast aluminum wheels. Other available features include a bright chrome exterior trim and a bright exhaust tip, as well as ABS and traction control (traction control only available with automatic transmission).

HHR 2LT standard features include ABS, fog lamps, bright exhaust tip, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, a 260-watt Pioneer sound system with subwoofer, FE3 sport suspension and a bright chrome exterior trim. Seventeen-inch painted aluminum wheels are standard, with optional high polished forged aluminum 17" wheels. Two-level heated leather seats also are available on both LT packages.

HHR production begins in the second quarter in Ramos, Mexico. Vehicles will be in dealerships by late summer.

Wow, that sounds like one heck of a package! Maybe it's the Chevy Scion

My in-laws want to buy my older daughter a car when she turns 16. They originally wanted to get her a Chrysler Sebring convert !

I thought they should pony up for a Cobalt, maybe this would be a better deal...

sure it will. it's sales so far over the last 3 years have been pretty brisk......back when it was still called a PT Cruiser.

LOL

and just like the PT it will have a huge roll out sales success, then drop off the map. you would think they'd looked at the huge drop in PT sales from year to year and learn a lesson from Chrysler. but alas they are seriously going to sell this thing...knowing full well it's a "trend" car and will practically begging people to come buy one 2 years from now. all the while the ones already sold resale will plumet 10x's faster than that of the Cavalier.
a $30,000+ PT in 2002 is now only worth $15 or 16,000.

Wow, how retarded is this......the HHR gets a STANDARD 8-way power seat in the mid-model, and yet it's not even an option in the most expensive Cobalt.

Call me weird...but I like the HHR...it would be perfect for me and what I need in the future. It's kinda like an SUV, car and van all rolled in to one. I'll be moving in 5 years to go for my bachelor's in either marketing/advertising or film and television. Having a vehicle that can carry a lot of equipment (I can barely fit my 17 inch monitor in the trunk or in the back seat of my car) would be handy. The only things I'm not liking about the HHR is the bright chrome (I loathe lots of chrome on a vehicle) accessories that appear to be standard on the 1LT and 2LT and the fairly small engine options for what should be a fairly heavy vehicle. Just wonder what type of gas mileage this thing would get.

I agree-cheap enough for the kids, can be loaded enough to please grandma.

Tag a 1k rebate on it to get it out there...it should do fine....

And for the whiners, Gm only plans to have this car for 4-5 years tops. Then L-town
will just make something else. So I'm not worried...

From what I'm seeing so far, people I've talked to seem to like it...

It think it will do pretty well with kids...and the baby boomers (like the PT)

I saw one in white and in a nice blue, and I do have to say that they are eye-catching.

Negative press adside, I think if they can get people into the dealership and driving
them, they will do just fine...

could you actually buy a PT for 30k?

What kind of retard would pay 30k+ for compact??

Evo?

ok then...

There are many cars that are "compact" in size and and are over $30K.

I like this thing, and one thing for sure is that the suspension it carries makes sense on this vehicle. If you know what I mean.

The PT is not a bad car. It is one sturdy hurse. For the record, the PT will get some freshening for 2006. So I would like to how these two compare.

No way a PT can be 30k new.

Mid 20s for fully loaded tops.

I am looking at '03s in the paper right now for like 12 grand.

When they first came out the demand far outreached the supply and dealers marked them up astronomically to make a profit. One local lady paid $27,995 to purchase the one she pre ordered, she later filed suit against the dealer and lost. I've heard rumors that some dealers are marking up the new Mustang GT 5-10k above msrp.

Mr. Goodwrench,

I'm old enough to remember 'compact' cars... Almost everything these days could be considered compact back in the day...

I still think the way GM has this priced that it will compete directly against the Scion xA or xB. About time they did something like this. Someone in their post said something about a $1,000 rebate. If that's true, then the pricing is dead square with the xB. (I think) (Whichever one is the 3/4 scale copy of the Astro van...) Plus, it has better standard equipment. Hey, I really would like a factory plug-in for my iPod on my Pontiac... I wonder if they will come up with retrofits for the older cars... That would be a hot seller...

It's funny you say that (hurse)-It just made my picture a coupe of grandpa's and grandma's racing off a light.....what a race that would be...

very true, The PT is pretty nice. They are fun to drive, and you can fit quite a bit into
those little things. And you can find them for well under 10k now. Which might
explain why I am seeing more kids driving em...
