As a car enthusiast, I respect all cars and peoples interest in them, I wish alot of you were the same way.
Yes, I love the cobalt ss, I have driven one and it put my very nice 03 cav to shame in every department IN MY OPINION (important). I also love the SRT-4 tremedously, without a doubt the best bang for the buck available today. Although my cousins stage 3 WRX is still my favorite car to rip around in.
I have been smoked by datsuns in a 2000 vette at the track many times when I visited Pomona dragway frequently when living in so cal. It's not what you drive but how you build it. Everyone likes a certain look, a certain style, coupe, sedan, hatch, whatever.
The cobalt is the next small chevy, and is an improvement. Does that mean in anyway that people will stop modding the thousands of j-bodies that are out there? Hell no.
Again, I have hat's off to both Chevy and Dodge for creating two great cars out of the box. (Except for the cobalt SS wing).
But again these are minor things when any body mods can change the whole look of a car. I mean look at an ugly @ss stock 2003 cav and see what my 03 looked like.
Maybe Im the only one, but I have such a stong passion for both the j-body and the cobalt and Ion that I support GM 100% Yes there are better OVERALL stock cars for the money, but the ecotec is such a great motor, that coupled with the more solid but heavier cobalt, or lighter and less rigid cavalier, that when modified the playing field becomes leveled easily. Racing results consistantly prove that the ecotec is a solid consistant performer, and these parts are available for our own vehicles if so inclined.
So many manufacturers are doing well nowadays. I LOVE the scion TC (not the box! LOL) as well as the new Saturn sedan slated for production.
Sorry for babblin, but I will never talk down on someone, or their car preference unless they made a mod that was completely uncomprehendible to achieving performance or looks.

As well as the other manufacturers, it is competition and increasing performance that is driving this industry. Again I don't think the cavalier body lines, and aftermarket support got the attention the j-body deserved. Don't get me wrong, people did realize quickly that with the right kit and stance any sunfire or cavalier could look great. I just feel that from the getgo the Cobalt will have a stronger aftermarket support around it.
I've modded my ex's integra, accord, two cavs, my cuz's WRX, my corvette, and I love them all for different reasons, and again everyone has there preference. But to me car modding/racing is a form of self expression, and as long as built the correct way we should support that no matter what the platform or manufacturer.
