First Thousand Solstices Ordered In Minutes
Exclusive First Orders Received from Customers in 47 States
DETROIT - One thousand lucky driving enthusiasts are looking forward to receiving an exclusive version of the new Pontiac Solstice roadster after being first in line to participate in a special promotion announced on Thursday night's episode of NBC's The Apprentice. Only 41 minutes were required to sell out of the specially-badged "First 1,000" Solstices.
"With the great response we've seen to the design and performance features being offered in our new Pontiacs, we were expecting many customers to jump at the chance to order one of the first Solstices," said John Larson, general manager of Buick-Pontiac-GMC. "But we were thrilled that we achieved such amazing results so quickly."
Orders were received from more than 650 dealers in 47 states. Additionally, more than 4,000 customers have asked to be placed on the wait list for one of the exclusive vehicles.
The Solstice early order program will continue through Sunday, April 24. Although the exclusive "First 1,000" cars have been ordered, Pontiac dealers have an additional allotment of Solstices available for pre-order during this period.

no one posted about it because it shows a successful move by GM. God forbid
good news, but it also means 1000 people will get anal raped raw on dealer mark ups. i shiver at the though of how hard dealers are going to jack up those out the door prices. geez, remember miatas were selling for $30,000 a pop in 1990. and in 1990 that was DAMN expensive. and even more recently the PT Cruisers were also running in the mid 30's the first year they came out. now you can pick up one of those 30,000+ PT's at a used car lot for $12,000. and don't even get me started on the massive rape Ford is commiting with the v-6 mustangs.
It's going to make a market spalsh just like the PT Cruiser did. It's very different and a lot of people are going to want one. I remember when the PT's came out there was a good sized waiting list. Looks like GM might hit the mark on this one

im a @!#$ pussy ass liar! i lied to my girlfriend over and over, sat around with her friends naked and stayed home downloading porn...she loved me and i hurt her...i deserve to be alone and unhappy...no wonder every girl i try to love leaves me...i suck.
well, when i worked at a ford dealer, we were one of the first in the country to recieve shipment (we are number 2 in sales). so, when the first two came in (red and black) they both sold at a 20,000 dollar markup.
i just laughed.

I saw this on Friday, but I thought it would not be significant. Yes, it is very good news that this has happened, but I will not get my hopes to high and think this will continue forever. This is a niche vehicle, like all niche vehicles, eventually sales will slow down either fast or slow, especially convertibles. Like for instance the XLR, it was selling really good in the beginning, now nobody wants them. The same is said for M-B SL's, VW Beatle, Chrysler's PT Cruiser, Ford Thunderbird, etc.
I am happy with this product and the price is very good, now I personally think it was a good effort by GM. But I would not be surprised if prices dwindle down. GM knows this as they are planing a coupe, so the Solstice stays "fresh."

Hopefully it's not in such a niche market that the resale goes to crap...like the PT.
this is good news for GM....glad to see people are paying attention and acctually wanting the car because of the car and now thousdands of dollars in rebates....
as goodwrench said, it is the type of car that probably wont sell really well for much more then a year or so, but thats expected with alot of sport/sporty type cars
Good. And while I work at a Saturn dealer, I hope the Solstice buries the Sky.

To GM:
See what happens when you bring almost-concept cars in the showroom? Not just rebadge and facelift an old design...
Sounds kinda like what happened then the Fiero was released.
Now Back from Iraq!
With More Favor and Less Calories
Working on the engine... Soon to be complete.
Well, being the hardcore Pontiac guy that I am, I got to sit through a "team" meeting where the owner of our company basically trashed the Solstice for a good 20 mins. While I realize that this is all under the GM umbrella, Pontiac owns me.
