I know this is probably the wrong place to ask...

....but a friend of mine is having a problem with his eclipse. Figured I asked for any tips on what the problem could be on here since this was the first place that popped into my head, lol. Here's what he says:

Quote:

i have a '97 eclipse that's giving me some problems. i'm usually handy with cars, do it all myself kinda guy. i've run into a problem though that's really tickin me off.
it is a 5 speed manual transmision, but the car won't shift into gear. it will if i have the ignition off, but not while it's running. if i put it in gear and turn the car on, it does the herky jerky thing everyone has seen when learning how to drive a stick. this applies to all gears, 1-5 and reverse. everything i've known and everything i've both been told and looked up myself points to the slave (or release) cylinder for this problem, but i changed that with no luck.

I'd greatly appreciate any info anyone can give me.

I don't know for sure on an Eclipse, but my Legend has both a master and a slave cylinder. I have had to replace my clutch master cylinder twice now.
