Sad day... I got my response from Transport Canada, Can't import a GTO until GM submits some for independant testing, or the 15 year limit is reached. They will not accept NTSB/insurance testing agencies testing data.
Anyhow.. I've figured I'll go with one of these guys here, free shippign to Vancouver and storage until they reach their 15 year limit:
MR2:
http://www.bestjapancar.com/toyota31112.htm about $3500
R32 Skyline:
Prefer this one:

But this will do:
http://www.bestjapancar.com/nissan111.htm
Both around $15,000

www.utilikilts.com <-- I use the original ones in khaki or nightwatch camo..
I also have a couple that are Family Tartan, but those are only for special occasions... like job interviews.
Leaves and impression.
Emor8t: Can't.. my job kinda dictates that unless I get deployed for UN duty, special duties or cross training, I can't live elsewhere.
Borsty: I'd like to, but 8 cyl + US made = stupid insurance rates. Even if you have a good record.
Jinxed: I'll email you when I get home.

Dumb thing to try, GAM...
Check out and see what the importation is on the Holden Monaro. You might be able to find a loophole.

The only thing every single person from every single walk of life on earth can truly say
they have in common is that their country is run by a bunch of fargin iceholes.
Negative... the New monaros/GTO's are listed as not importable. Actually, all Holdens are listed as non-import.
mr Goodwrench: They were made in Quebec (forget the name... but the plant is an open lot now.) I'm in Ontario, and the prices for F-bods here is as stupid as a lot of War Forum posts.

well there are two gto's here at the dealer
how many do they need for thier crash test?
if its one (which i doubt) then get everyone who wants one together to chip in a grand or two
to have it tested
02 trans am was in the paper here for $25k
.... I can ge t a 04 GTO for that.
so u dont want a T/A because 8 cyl + US made = stupid insurance rates, but you were trying to import a GTO?
doesnt make sense. lol
thel61: You need at least 7. I don't have that kind of scratch
redcav1: If it's an import, I can go to Grundy for agreed value coverage, whereas, I cannot if I go to an F-bod that's newer than 25 years old.
mr goodwrench: That's it... I'm working (at least looking like it
) and it slipped off the tip of my tongue.

GAM, It's seems like you've done all the homework you possibly can on the subject.
So what exactly is importable and what isn't? I know you can't list everything but I'm curiuos on how they decide what they let in and what they don't.
I've heard all sorts of different rules and laws and I'm curious on what you've found.

Basically, the only things they can deny importation of a vehicle is:
- Non-compliant bumpers front and rear,
- Non-compliant side impact members
- Non-compliant fuel tank/cell and position (must be infront of the rear axle)
- Non-compliant emissions equipment.
The monaro fails almost all of those requirements.
Jinxed gave the link to the Import page... basically it excludes EVERYTHING unless it's sold here, or has TUV certification (TUV requires 10km/h bumpers). GTO and Monaro are neither... and unless I foot the bill for crash testing and the vehicles... they won't accept the NTSB crash standard data.

did you try to email gm and see if they would market in canada at all?
Yes, I've emailled Just about every person I humanly can, and I've recieved the same answer: Sales projections are not strong enough to justify the expenditure of altering the bumpers, and freight/Gas/Luxury taxes.
GM ain't interested, and if it was economically viable, I'd honestly take a sabbatical from my job to start up a business importing and bringing up to crash spec of GTO's, MR2 Spyders and a few other vehicles that aren't going to make it north of 49.
