Pics of my tC

Hey guys. I haven't posted hree in a LONG time and it's gotten nicer out the past couple weeks so I've been able to do more with my car. This weekend my brother and I put on my Tein springs and DC Sports header, and earlier this week I put on a Weapon R intake and DC Sports strut bar. It's coming... slowly.

I'm almost at 10,000 miles now and so far I have no beefs with the car. Mods go on super easy, just like a Honda, which is cool - and I haven't had any problems or major complaints yet. I would definetly recommend these cars to anyone looking to buy one.

The only beef with the Scion scene right now is a lack of a good forum - there are a ton of them out there and they're getting better as the "my parents bought me this tC and I want to do some l33t Autozone mods to it" kiddies are getting weeded out. My only other beef being that some of the parts are still quite expensive, although as more come out prices are coming WAY down. I think this is going to be the summer of the tC for me for sure. There are too many fun parts coming out that I've gotta have. Just as with all my other cars, this thing will break me this year I'm sure.

Without further hesitation, here are the pics:

I like it man. Glad to see you still are around this forum. I still think your Civic was one of the best looking Civics that came across this forum in a long time.

What else is in store for the tC?

Have a good one,
Justin

If they ever pull their heads out and release the blower I'm going to look in to that. They're saying it's going to be "affordable" and won't say anything else, including how much power it's going to add. Some speculation says it'll bring the car to 200hp, others say 220hp but I haven't seen (nor can I imagine) numbers much higher than that. The compression in the car is quite low though so 8-10lbs of boost isn't unrealistic at all.

The only thing that's for sure is that it's going to be centrifugul, not void the factory warranty, have a 5 year warranty of it's own. Beyond that Toyota is doing a good job of keeping thier lips tight, even to dealers, but I"m sure they're trying hard to be competitive with the SRT-4, Saturn Ion Redline, and Cobalt SS. We'll see. I've got high hopes.

so i'm totally digging these cars, and have from day one but the thing that keeps bugging me is comparitive performance. i want to go tiset drive one so i can prepare to save....but i know going into a dealer i have to put up with them wanting me to buy NOW. but what's this thing feel more like from a performance standpoint. the numbers tell me it probably is like the old Z24 in acceleration. but i can't help but to think it has a dead feel to it's 0 to 60 like the celica. does it have the low-end kick-in-the-pants we Z24 owners love?

Even an 04 Celica GTS only has a 1.8L engine in it. It's got 180hp, but only 130 ft lbs of torque. They accellerate like Hondas - they're wicked on top but there's absolutely 0 "punch it and you're gone" without downshifting like mad and waiting for the revs to climb. Another good thing about those is that they only weight 2500lbs and they've got a 6 speed - which helps to overcome their lack of torque. There still isn't any "kick in the pants" though. Again - another downside - they hold their retail, so they're expensive to get your hands on. They are Toyotas though, so they'll run until they rust into the ground.

Take an 04 Cavalier Sport Coupe compared to that. You can pick one up for a lot less - Edmunds puts the fair market value for one at just under $10,000 (compared to $18,000 for the Celica GTS). You get a 2.2L engine making 140hp and 150 ft lbs of torque. More torque, but weight is a more beefy 2749lbs.

Granted you can pick up a normal Celica GT for less than $16,000, which has only 140hp like the Cavalier, and about as much torque, but also weighs only 2425lbs. That'd be more comparable to an LS Sport Coupe than a Celica GTS in all but the "price," "build quality," and possibly "cornering" categories.

The tC weighs in at a porky 2905 lbs - 156 lbs more than an LS Sport Cavalier... which isn't TOO bad - it's a diet for some of the people I've seen running at our local dragstrip for sure. You get 160 hp and 164 lb feet of torque to get with that though, with a 2.4L engine - the biggest of all 4 cars. Older Z24's had 2.4L engines also, but they still didn't make as much power as the tC does with VVTI (Like VTEC but on the intake cam only). You can also get a brand new tC for less than a used 04 Celica GTS according to fair market value... a plus.

I weighed my options before dropping cash on a new car, believe me. I test drove about 15 cars before I settled on the tC.

Excellent conditions the Celica GTS is a little faster in the quarter than the tC is.... ScionLife boards show decent drivers in 5 speed tCs running mid to mid-high 15 second quarters. From being at the track myself and checking out some of the times that stock LS Sports post on this board the normal quarter mile runs for LS Cavs is high 15's to low 16's for the 5 spd. Autos is a whole nother story and IMHO not worth discussing.

I'd definetly recommend it though. If you test drive one, drive one with TRD springs on it. The car feels uber heavy and "rolly-polly" with the stock mushy suspension.

I got that number at Edmunds.com for a 2004 Celica GT-S

http://www.edmunds.com:80/used/2004/toyota/celica/100335731/specs.html?tid=edmunds.u.prices.leftsidenav..6.Toyota*

The GT weighs a little less - 2425lbs it says.
