ok, my friend has an escort zx2, 2002, he has a 2.75 inch catback and a cold air intake, 16 inch rims and kuhmo 712 tires.........why is he running low 17's in the 1/4 mile......thats way too slow, and its not his driving either, he was driving it fine, its something in the car......his 1/8 was slow, the 60 ft was ok and the difference between 1/8 and 1/4 is fine, so something is killing his midrange power.........is it the exhaust?

doubt the exhaust would hurt that much....is it an automatic? if he is that slow then he might be low on compression (weak cyl)......or slipping clutch.

Been OwNEd by a 2.2 lately?
that exhaust is WAY to big.
2.25 would be fine, 2 maybe better
2.75 is almost the size of exhaust for FI cars (which is usually 3)
yeah i know, i think its the exhaust.......btw he's running a 5 speed

i doubt its the exhaust like i said. tell the guy to do a compression test. that big of an exhaust shouldnt add 1.5 seconds to a 1/4 mile run

agreed, i drove a 5 speed model, and it was a LOT peppier than I would have guessed. I had NO trouble barkin 2nd real good...but 3rd....I dunno, I hated the shifter, it always just barely missed 3rd gear, I hardly ever have trouble nailing a gear, but not matter the practice, it liked to miss 3rd gear if I went fast, for speed. What's your elevation there? some people, with bad elevation, never get good times...
if zx2fast would post i bet he could help you out
he has one his wife has one so he should know a bit about them
There is something very wrong with that car. If he has problems with it, tell him to post on www.teamzx2.com and we can help him out with it. 2.75 is a bit large but I run a 2.5 inch exhaust and it has a nice powerband above 4500 rpm.
T3 Super 60 at 8 psi, FMIC, 2.5" charge pipes, HKS SSQV, Ford Racing UDP, MSD coil, SCT Xcal2, B&M shifter, S/R cluster (150mph), Eibach Sportline springs, 19mm RSB, ES bushing kit, Trubendz 2.5" stainless steel exhaust w/ resonator and Borla ProXS, custom LED brake light bar, Phantom Grip.
ZX2 can be quick, As for his times... Something is not right. He should be in the mid to high 15's.
Simple stuff though. Change the fluids. My wifes Mustang went 18 months without an oil change. When we changed the oil and it was a quite bit quicker.

Exshaust is to big I used to own one of these, my first car before I wrecked it, I ran a 2.25 inch exshaust and I had internals and cams done, bigger squirts and quite a bit of other work. Just make sure all fluids are topped off and you have a clean filter. How come he went with 2.75 inch exshaust the GUDE headers that I had on mine came to a 2.25 inch pipe anyway.
