hey guys,
my gf has a 2001 dodge durango, she wants to put a sub in it, my question is can she hook up an amp to the stock stereo? shes got a cd and tape already with the inifinity speaker package.
i'm taking her tonight to look at subs but i need to know if we can or not, because installing an aftermarket deck is out of the question.
thanks in advance
The Infinity system already has a 40wx4 amp in it, so it is possible, but I don't recommend it, when I do my system in a couple of weeks I'm replacing the whole deck
Yella02-I promise I will return to you in one piece and this will stay up until I am safely home
the thing is this is my gf's parents car, but she drives it and they will not allow a new deck, plus $$$ is kinda tight, were thinking of 1 12" and a decent amp.
but we do not want anything from the stock system changed
Sorry man, at the very least you'll have to get a new amp and run power cabling, if you're EXTREMELY lucky you could find a way to tap into the speaker leads for amp input.

most amps have speaker-level inputs, where you wire these plugs (usually included with the amp) in-line with the speakers. they plug into the amp, and then you wire the sub to the amp.
i'd go to a reputable stereo shop and ask, though

we are planning on getting a new amp for the sub, and a wiring kit, i just want to know if its possible to install the aftermarket amp into the stock deck without messing with the stocl system
there's a converter that taps into the rear speakers and converts the signal to rca output for the amp. i had a 10" bazooka tube with a punch 100 in the z24 with ths stock radio. just go to best buy and get the converter. its like 8 bucks. roadmaster by jensen.
i say some guy come thru the driethru when i worked at wendys in a ZX2 said he had a 2500 watt system (worked at circuit city) and a facotry deck.

Or you could buy some RCA cables and cut one of the ends off, splice the wires into the rear speaker outputs and your done. No need to buy a converter.

Uh, I won't even get into the list as to what the @$*! is wrong with that statement.
I'll just say, don't do that.

yeah easiest way to go is get the little box that converts the speaer wire inputs into RCA, they are very high voltage of a signal so keep the gain on the amp really low... but if your interested send me a Money order for $10+ shipping and I'll mail you the one i have
This is what I used to install a powered Bazooka tube in my g/f's 03 Civic EX coupe...
