I've been looking at getting a truck for a winter beater and to haul my ATV around. But I've also always liked El Caminos for their versatility. My question is what is the size of the box on these cars? I'm talking about like a mid 80's version. Is it the same size as a truck? Does anybody have access to one of these to measure, or know offhand the size? Thanks.

the 80's models have a fairly small box (not sure the size. but i know you can fit a atv in a 72 and earlier.
maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day
you should be able to get 1 in the back of a 80's model , unless you gotta a stretch arm on the back
it should be about 6ft though , most of them were
By the way, here is a pic of one I have been looking at, so you can get an idea... The box looks pretty big judging by the picture:
Oh yeah its got a 5.0L V8.... sweet

my friend's uncle has one almost like that. i think it's a "conquistador" model or something (whatever the hell that is
)
you'll have no problem fitting an ATV into it
The box's are a few inches over 6ft. One of the things you might want to do is get a paintable bedliner kit like Rhyno. Also Elky's can't haul too much weight since it is built on a car chassis (G-Body) so don't overload them.

Do you happen to know the width between the wheel wells? And as far as weight, I think the heaviest thing I would ever carry is my ATV, which is about 300 pounds.

you could probably do it easily, maybe add a leaf to the springs (i think they have leaf springs) to compenstate for the atv.

the rear springs are coil's , so add a leaf isnt a option
put air bags inside the rear springs and youll be ok , air shocks will brake the lower shock mount
and my 68 elco has a 500 pound rating
kinda weak but , i olny haul ass with it so im safe
LOL
