Fuji Heavy Industries. haha.

GM has 20% of Subaru, that's how they made the Impreza/WRX into a Saab 9-2X
stargrrrl, is correct. GM owns 20% of Subaru International which is a subsidary of Fuji Heavy Industries.
The Outback, Legacy, and Tribeca (and I think the Impreza) all go through final assembly in the US. The main plant is in Indiana and there is a sister plant in Lafayette, LA. To my knowledge the Forrester is the only one still produced entirely in Japan.

I used to think the same thing. I think it has to do with the rallies, the name Outback, and the biggest reason of all was because they used to have Paul "Crocodile Dundee" Hogan in their commercials... Subarus MUST be Australian, right? lol

Um, Japan is the right answer.
I can tell because of the lack of "Australian" writing in my engine bay LMAO
