This past weekend i became aware of this beauty while at an auto show, the Saab 9-2X.
See info here
Price is nice, i liked the styling.... AWD wagon! It's another contender with the AWD Vibe & the Subies... speed of the Subies with the price of the Vibe & still GM! Not to mention that it IS part WRX... check out the Car & Driver article
here.
Only problem is that of the 2 people I've known that had Saabs, they both had horrible experiences. One caught on fire & the other was nickle & diming which got it traded in within a year of being purchased. In fact it had to be towed home after my friend test drove a new vehicle & limped back the next day to be traded in.
That said, I've always heard that Saabs are suposed to last long, but are expensive with repairs. Tell me what you've experienced!

Save for the sheet metal and interior, it
is a WRX. If you're worried about the mechanical aspects of it, treat it as a Subaru, not a Saab. It's essentially a slightly detuned STi engine, with the STi suspension and brakes in a more luxurious package. Hell, it's already been nicknamed the "Saabaru" by some.
I've got a friend that owns one; no mechanical issues thusfar, just a small problem with the paint on the hood fading.
my uncle owns a saab and has for many years and if I can remember right he's always owned saabs and loved them

its the regular wrx engine setup
I am looking at this model too
My next car has to have RWD or atleast AWD. And well, the 9-2 falls in this category.
As for Saab's. They are probably the most reliable European cars we have in this market.
But this Saab is a Subie.

This is the first car that's actually made me seriously consider trading in the Sunfire. Unfortunately, the estimated montly payments came out to more than i can afford. Maybe in 5 years when there's a nice used one that's been garage kept....
Seriously, at the show, it winked at me. This is one sexy car that hasn't really made much of a buzz so far as i've seen.

Mostly because people will say that this is a more expensive WRX. Which it may be true, but the interior is brightened up, more insulation, and I think it looks better then the WRX's look (cleaner, mature look).
But I think its a great buy. Besides not everyone is going to have one. Thats aplus in my book.

I thought it had the 2.5L, not the 2L.
The Linear is the "base", it's got the 2.5 with 165hp.
The Aero is the upgraded model, it's got the 2.0 turbo, 227hp
Looking hard at the WRX wagon, but this would definitely be a possible buy. I almost owned a 95 Saab a couple of years back, awesome car, custom geared tranny, modified engine and turbo, water cooling, thing was awesome, but the guys wife told him no after I got the bank loan.
My friend got an Aero like 3-4 months ago when they came out. Very nice and fun car. Yeah you shouldnt think of it as a Saab but think of it as a Saabaru. Plus theres already a lot of aftermarket out for it being that WRX parts swap over.

i was just on gmbuypower.com and noticed they had a $6,000 rebate. WHAT A STEAL!!!
I thought the 9-2X aero had the 2.0L Ecotec that comes in the Redline and Cobalt, except is turbocharged instead of supercharged.
no its a WRX as stated above. subbies don't use any gm engines.
I have seen the 9-2X advertised in the newspaper for as low as $16,995 new but with no turbo last weekend.

I was looking at the 9-2Xs this morning. It seems like now is a good time to get one now that they have $5,000 and $6,000 rebates on the Linear and Aero models respectfully.
I also was doing some research on Saab in general this morning on the net while I was at work and I read somewhere that Saab hasn't turned a profit since GM gained full control of the company around 2000. Is this true and if so how can this be happening? I thought that company would turn some kinda of profit for GM, even if it wasn't a big one. Are Saab vehicles just that bad, are they mismanaged or does GM just not care about that brand?
^^Put it like this, the next Saab's 9-3 and 9-5 will not be built in Trollhatten, Sweden but along side Opel in Germany. The last real Saab was 2002 Saab 9-3. The Saab 9-5 is a Opel Vectra, 9-7x is a Trailblazer, 9-2x is a Impreza, and 9-3 is a Malibu/G6.
Even their original I-4s (Ecopower) is going extinct.
Saab is not a bad company, but GM is just rabadging other GM products.

Dont mind the enkei logo, it came with the car since they come with enkei wheels. He since put his old motegis on as you can see in the pics.
I still like this car, fun to drive and you get a lot of room out of the hatch.

the 9-2x is the ONLY Saab i would own
Woah this is back!
I actually was checking one out while i was signing papers for the Outback i got since i posted this thread
The dealership i bought from handles used Subaru at one lot and "other brands & bargains" at the other lot - i had to go to the Subaru lot to sign papers since my car was a bargain & out front there was the 9-2X.
It's not as attention grabbing on the road as i thought it would be, that was only the 2nd one i've seen.
what's sad is if you work for GM, you can get one cheaper than you can get a WRX.
