Just curious what everyone knows about these. i dunno if its just me, but i love the styling. Anyone know if there is a site like JBO for these cars? I know its a daewoo underneath...i'm just kinda thinking this might be my next car....

Actually a very nice car there...that is the same car as the U.S. Suzuki Reno. i worked at Suzuki and watched this car through development. for the price it's an awesome car.
the motor is actually GM. it's a holden 2 liter 4-cyl. and there is a decent aftermarket for that motor down under. so it deffinitely has potential. plus in the U.S. as a suzuki model it has a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty.
this may be MY next car too. but i still keep getting pulled away from wanting it when i start to see used WRX wagons going pretty cheap.
the car is fairly new but a forum for is available at Zukiworld.com...under the name Reno (same car)

If you are willing to look at used cars, you could also look at the Mazda Protege 5s. Also, the Subaru Impreza wagons, both 2.5 RS and WRX are very nice.
A review of the related Suzuki Reno at Autoweek.com...

You asked for an opinion, I gave it. There are nicer cars out there then the Optra.

Yeah true enough, i personally wouldnt want to go used. I'm gonna see what the Optra 5 finances at. I'm looking for something with a solid warranty as well.

Eco?? That would be a no.
But the car is loaded, you get power everything, CD/Cass, rear discs, long warranty, good fit and finsh (for the price), etc. I have not driven one yet, but the car looks promising, especially since I've seen them advertised for $9,995.
I would never buy used for a comuter car, so you can't go wrong here.

Those things are pretty cool actually aveo's and optra 5's...the D-tec works alright and with a 5 speed they can hold there own...good burnouts to
yes, this time goodwrenchs info is incorrect. i worked at suzuki specifically in product development, it was my job to know these cars inside and out. the car comes equiped with a motor engineered, developed, and built for about 15+ years buy Holden, theres nothing "daewoo" about it.
the car was built and designed by GMDAT (formerly Daewoo) but the motor is 110% General Motors as well as the transmission. this Holden motor has been used in Holden cars down under for years and has proven it's self fairly bullet-proof. Being it's been around for years now Aussie tuners have found plenty of ways to tune it up. there is a healthy aftermarket for the motor...the downside is it can be expensive, since the aftermarket is located in Austrailia. this same motor is in the regular Optra (Suzuki Forenza) as well. The car it's self is a great deal loaded, and is why i was thinking of getting one. it seems to be alot of stuff for the price, and built pretty solid...and this car isn't the Aveo either. the Suzuki Forenza/Chevy Optra was actually co-engineered by GM, where the Chevy Aveo/Suzuki Swift+ was completely engineered by Daewoo and and another obscure korean car maker. and was built and produced before the GM takeover.
completely different car. calling the Reno/Optra 5 an Aveo is like saying the Malibu and the Cavalier are the same car.

Because I cant buy the chevy version in the states..
and its the exact same as the chevy one, same engine, everything.. so why not..
What is the name of the Chevy variant of the Forenza thats sold overseas?
anyone?
it's still a Daewoo overseas. it's a Chevy in Canada, and a Suzuki in the U.S.

looks like the front grill is totally different, so that wont work.. maybe I could jsut put a bowtie in place of the 'S',
Anyone have the GM part numbers for the rear chevy emblem, and the rear Optera and Chevrolet name plate?
hook me up... I am counting on you Canooks here..
bah, the steering wheel has a big S on it too.. it would end up costing alot to change all that, and the grill would still be different... tempting.. I wish they sold the chevy version in the states.. I need a vehicle with a rear area like a suv or a wagen for my Dog.. and the Forenza Wagen is VERY well equiped for the money..
