i always loved the look of these cars (2000+). i am looking into one. i saw a GT -S under 10g's and i fell in love with it. the only thing im concerned about is how will the insurance be on a car like this? it shouldnt be worse than the cavalie right?
you're 21 dude, it will almost double. that's a slight exaggeration but it will go up a significant amount. sorry.
GTS is the best way to go for a celica. Insurance will rape you in the a$$ since you are 21. I have a 2004 dodge SRT-4 and Im paying 700 for 6 months. (23 years old with 2 accidents within 3 years and 2 speeding tickets) I bet your like WTf, how did you get such a low rate. My secret.

Haha I'm 22 and only paying $80 a month for full coverage on my GTO. And yes, it is completely in my name.

well then ill get the GT and "trick" it out. they make a turbo for it anyways. that shouldnt be too bad i dont think. my father puts the insurance in his name (and im just a driver in the house" and he doesnt have any accidents but my mom had a no fault accident two yrs ago so the insurance went up a lil. i dont have my own insurance. im under my dad so the rates shouldnt rape me. right?
jw have you driven a gt/gts yet?
yeh in this girls but it was an automatic. i like how its smaller in the inside and its got a sporty taste to it. i figured it would be good on insurance cuz it was a hatchback. i just like the look of it. very sweet lookin. making some power is also a plus, but how much power can you get if your traveling 90 miles a day and you gotta pay or gas 5 days a week?
mike GT- how is your insurance compared to your cavalier?
procold-
it basically doubled.
but i wasnt worried about the insurance because i really loved it right from the start
the gas mileage is amazing though. granted i dont drive much from work to school, but i fill up once a month using mid-grade.
keep in mind, if you get the GTS you will need to use premium gasoline.
if you have the money, def go for the gts 6speed.
yeh thanks for the tip. you see i dont know much bout insurance cuz my car is under my dads name. but from what i know, if it is technically "his" car, it should be cheaper than if i were to have my own insurance. i guess the best thing to do is a get a quote. where is the best place to get a quote online for a future car?
not sure on quote places but try

anyways. i am not too sure on insurance either, but def. try to stay under your dads insurance plan. it will save a lot!
yeh im def staying under my dads insurance. i went on geico and compared rates for a 2004 tracker (mom) , 2000 cavalier (me) and 1996 ford explorer (dad). it was about $1667 for 6 months of "personalized" insurance. then i substitued the cavy for the 2000 GT-s and it was $1777(not bad) . Then i subted that in for just the 2000 GT and it came out to about $1690. i dont think those are bad rates at all. the GT-s turned me off cuz of the premium gas and the fact its so expensive and driving 90 miles doesnt help me out much. so im gonna stick wih the GT.
Go for the GT-S 6 Speed Josh. Just don't treat it like you treat your Cavy
Secondhand reports I've gotten....
If it's an automatic GT-S, stay very far away. The automatic does the 2ZZ no justice whatsoever, and is insane on insurance. I know two people who have sold automatic GT-Ss in the past 6 months. One now has a WRX STi, and pays LESS in insurance.
why would the GT-s auto be so expensive?
God i love the Celica. too bad it's going away, but at least the Scion tC is an acceptable replacement. i'd love to own one but they're too darned small inside for me. but an over all well designed car inside and out
its not just the auto, its the 6speed as well.
I would def try to get the gts though. the 5speed gt is nice, just lacks power.

If anyone knows, what are the power stats on the GT and the GTS

GT uses regular, GTS needs Premium.
6 2? it will fit you "ok", just not confortably.
GT= 140HP
GTS=180HP
yikes, i hate being stuffed in a car!!!

GTS has variable lift so at 6,200 rpm it switches over to a high-lift cam which basically makes it feel turbocharged.
mike is right about insurance on the GTS also. it's the 3rd highest priced car to insure <$40,000 after the s2000 and mustang gt. the celi gt insurance isn't cheap either. i pay $195/mo. at state farm and that's with a perfect recored under my parents policy. it's a great car though. the gt is a little low on power but the handling and braking make up for it big time. overall i couldn't be happier with my celi
